cards in sli don't act as DOUBLE THE PERFORMANCE, more of a 25-50% increase at max.. i think

Depends on the card, the GTS450 actually scales at around 99% believe it or not, I could dig up the benchmarks if I had some time.

Modern Nvidia 4 and 5 series and AMD HD 6xxx cards scale at 90+% for the second card, the third card can also scale that well depending on the game and driver support. The GTX 580 can achieve 75% scaling as a quad setup over dual. Have a read:

Wow, A 560 is about the same price of two 450's. Which is better?

Here's a good read on the subject :

Looks like 450 SLI will offer comparable performance as GTX560 so no significant gain here.
Taking that 450 SLI and 560 are the same cost i would get single GTX560 which leaves you with option to go SLI later on when you'll need more power.
Going SLI when single card can give you the same performance for the same price makes no sense , this way you would just cripple your upgrade options for the future.

two 450's will perform about the same as a 560 for games that take full advantage of sli. however, not all games do so.

further, if the motherboard you will be using this setup on is the same as the one in your sig, then sli isn't an option. that board is only crossfirex certified, not sli certified. simply having 2 slots doesn't always mean you can use two cards. there is a patch to allow the board to use sli, and there are various other tricks....but this increases your workload, and decreases stability, when, for the same money, and less work, you can get equivalent (or better, in some cases) performance in a single gpu: the 560.

SoOoOoOoOo, what i recommend is to get the 560. Actually, though, you will see better performance with the 560 Ti, and its only ~$30 more for a same manufacturer model. so thats my real recommendation. the 560 ti is pretty capable, and can max out most games, as well as get pretty close on the graphics intensive games like BF3. the 560 will not perform as well, but if your budget really can't handle the extra $30, its still a good card.
