Phenom II 955BE Overclocking frustrations. - Page 2

Drop the volts back to 1.55. Keep temps below 62c.

Turn on Load line calibration and turn off Cool n Quiet etc. Set your Ram speeds to its rated speeds and just start by using the multi to push your CPU up. Usually only need around 1.44- 1.46 v for 4GHz for a c3 Deneb like the 955BE.

Set your cpu to the best it will run while in the 1.5v range and call it a day....it'll last longer and perform better for the long haul wink.gif
Edit: the extra voltage will damage it even with temps in check, it is simply more than the circuits can handle

WTH? He's on a Deneb not a Thuban, not a snowballs chance in hell he could hit 3000CPU-NB with that chip.

I don't have a Front Side bus, I have Hypertransport. Still not sure how to tighten up the RAM timings.

I don't see Load Line Calibration, and I have not been able to make it stable at 4GHz with <1.5V

Set it to 1.5V and 4.0GHz and started Prime95. BSOD immediately.

not all mobo's have LLC. you might have hit a wall. I cant hit 4.0 perfectly stable to save my life. 3.9 is the max I have gotten to be fully stable.

You and I have the same chip and MB. wonder if it's coincidence we can't hit 4.0? biggrin.gif

heres a good guide for ram overclocking http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/152 and yes it's alot like cpu in that more voltage will in general give better results to a point, however the cpu has the memory control module built into it and that will be a limiting factor....your ram is 1.5v at 1600 so at 1333 you can probably get much better than 9 9 9 timings without raising voltage...lower is better as far as timings

has nothing to do with it. I have had this chip on its 3rd mobo. Its verry common for C3 phenoms IIx4's to hit a "wall" at 4.0. the C2 version had a hard time getting to 3.8GHz. It sucks but the 955's are not the best overclockers.

To be fair I have had my PC boot up at 4.0 and have done some fiddling with it but its just pointless. for what I use my PC for there is no reason to push the CPU. I havn't seen ANY performance form OC'ing my chip yet. so I keep it at stock clocks for the most part. the difference from 3.2 to 3.9 was nothing for gaming.

HT is something else entirely it should be set at 2000.....your fsb can be called bus speed also
