Maybe just a bad batch.

Mine does 4.5 at 1.55v but at 4.0 it only takes on average 1.40v.

I used 200x20

I'm guessing this is a C2 stepping 955? If so this is a typical scenario.

Golden chip sir! I can do 3.9 at 1.40v I have not messed with it but I "Think" if i took to the to fiddle with it I could do 4.0 at 1.45-1.475v. mind you this is speculation on my behalf.

Yours is the exception and not the norm that's for sure. That 975 seemed to be a pretty good clocker for you. Most C3's will hit ~2800 average. C2's ~2600.

Also, I was talking about HIS chip, which he's already cooked somewhat (IMO).

To be fair I have had my PC boot up at 4.0 and have done some fiddling with it but its just pointless. for what I use my PC for there is no reason to push the CPU. I havn't seen ANY performance form OC'ing my chip yet. so I keep it at stock clocks for the most part. the difference from 3.2 to 3.9 was nothing for gaming.

It was a joke my friend smile.gif but that was going to be my next question; what's the point? Did you do any fiddling that resulted in better gaming or even faster Windows booting? I was thinking my RAM timings being tightened might help that some, but if you tell me you did this and it didn't make a difference then I'll just change everything back to stock and go back to playing games.

With all due respect sir, I think that's incorrect? Everything I've read says that a function of HT was to replace FSB, so how could they be something else entirely? Regardless, the word Bus does not appear anywhere that I can find in my BIOS. The HT is set to 2000 though.

And you did nothing but increase multiplier/voltage? Or was there something else you did to help stability? I just ran Prime95 at 3.9/1.5V and Worker 4 threw an error 12 minutes in, so even that's not stable for me.

In gaming there is very little reason to OC a 955BE. unless your CPU is making a bottleneck your not going to see much if any performance gain for gaming. OC'ing is more for media encoders and such, people who will put the entire chip under one hell of a load. gaming just dose not stress the chip as much as people make it out. If you where running a high end GPU set up like 6990/590/580SLI/6970CF then yes, you will get a few Frame's while gaming. but you can run the test's yourself. remove all overclocks and play a game, take not of FPS. Then overclock to your highest stable point and check your FPS.

So are there any tweaks you recommend for better gaming then? Ram or GPU OCing?

I stand corrected on the HT thing...well kind of....HT link should not be over 2000.....HT Ref Clock or system bus or fsb is what you want to increase to around 250 and then use your multiplier to get the cpu frequency you want for a better performing overclock....http://slappablog.wordpress.com/2009/05/28/phenom-ii-am3-overclocking-essentials-guide/ another excellent guide for cpu overclocking
