Hello its me gabead. I like to state that I never said 1.7v on the overclock. Just want to clear that up smile.gif. Pretty much everyone here has echoed what I said. The only thing I don't know if I agree on is overclocking everything at the same time. It only leaves you guessing what problems are causing what when you get BSOD and or erros in Prime. When I had my 1090T I did the overclock first. When I got it to the speed that I liked and had not errors after running prime then I messed with the NB. When I did the NB and I got errors I knew the overclock I had was fine. and I kept messing with the NB until no errors and had success. I had the exact same board he has now so I was a little familiar on what he was doing.

This may not be what you want to hear, but some chips have a frequency wall. My 955BE has a 4ghz wall, and a huge one. 1.45V at 3.89Ghz, but 4Ghz takes 1.55. Does it make sense? No, not at all. Set a voltage you feel safe with, 1.55 is the maximum from AMD. If I had your cooling, I would set my CPU to 1.55 and see how far I can take the CPU frequency, If you also plan to overclock the northbridge frequency you will need to bump voltage of the CPU-NB-VID. This adds quite a lot of heat, try to keep it under 1.5V for the cpu nb vid. You should be able to get your NB frequency to 2.6 or 2.8, maybe 3ghz if your mobo is nice. Then call it a day for the cpu, some 955's just dont clock well, I know mine doesn't

Tough luck....

Not to brag or anything, but you sure? I've done 4.5 at 1.55 stable prime95 for like 30 mins ( i was impatient ) without any effort.

EDIT : I have 3 955s. They all run at 4.0Ghz+

you sir have 3 golden chips. C2 955's hit a wall around 3.8 most of the time. While the C3's have more of a tendency to hit 4.0 to 4.2.. But I have yet to see a 955 Stable at 4.5 for 24/7 usage. You should see if those chips will hold 4.5 in prime for 8+ hours.

It seems like you need to do A LOT more research about overclocking before attempting to reach 4.0GHz. With 1.7V, you could've destroyed your chip especially since you were running Prime95.
