Windows xp timer resolution aka tick rate

Thread Starter
I've recently discovered my windows xp box is stuck running at it's maximum timer resolution of .977ms.
This is fine and dandy for most users but I prefer the default tick rate of 15.625ms (don't ask why).
I've been googling for days trying to figure out how to force the default tick rate but I cannot make it happen.
I'm losing sleep over this issue and would appreciate a little guidance in the right direction.
Thanks in advance for any informative replies.

edit: nvm figured it out finally (always happens after I ask for help).
Audio drivers were causing the multimedia timer to stay maxed out.
after driver removal mm timer is back to the usual 15.625ms

Thanks this actually helped me. Asus xonar drivers when installed automatically set it to .977ms. I wonder if there is a way to install the drivers and leaving it with the default 15.625.
