Very strange temp issue with EVGA gtx 560ti.....

Thread Starter
Just put together my new SB rig this weekend. I did everything just like I always do. I assembled the components, installed windows, installed drivers. and did windows updates. Here's the strange part. Before windows update my 560ti was idling at 28 to 32 deg. After windows update my idle temps went to 42 to 45 deg. Could someone please explain this to me?

Program used to check temperature?

Is GPU usage near 0? Is it underclocking while idle?

You made no changes to the internal layout of the computer?

Download latest drivers from the Nvidia website.

Don't use Microsoft's version of the drivers, they're terrible.

Whats happening is the Microsoft version of the driver is not underclocking the card during Idle or 2D state mode, of which it should.

I have downloaded the latest drivers from Nvidia. Started with 285.62 then went back to 280.26. No change

Do you have any extra applications running in the background that could use the GPU? Anything that needs hardware acceleration (Web browsers can but shouldn't use much)

That's the odd part.

nVidia generally downclocks its cards during 2D (desktop idle) mode.
Gives me ~10 Celcius temperature jump since idle clocks are 50/101/135 and my 3D clocks are 832/1664/2100. Pretty big gap no?

Care posting some pictures to show?

Maybe download MSI afterburner and downclock your card to the listed idle speeds and see if temperature goes down accordingly.

You have two monitors connected.

Thats your problem.

I use a piece of software called "NVinspector" It forces the downclock of the video card but you have to add 3d applications in to the software so it can revert back up to full speed.
