Broken Asus GTX590 fan:(

Thread Starter
Hello Guys
Shame my first threads a depressing one:( but I did some cable management on my rig and fired it up. Everything was going well for a couple months but then one of my cable clamps came loose and went straight into my GTX590 fan:( and snapped a fin clean off:( I took it back to the place I bought it and they said they'll have to contact thier supplier, and see if I can get an RMA but I was told its unlikely they'll accept it back. I'm going to find out tomorrow if I can get a new card. I'm just wondering in case I can't get an RMA. What are my other options, Is the fan easy to replace and can I replace it with a standard fan or would I have to replace the whole shroud, and if I do do you know where I can get replacements. Any helps appriciated. Thankyou so much:)

Welcome to OCN!

Instead of going to the place where you bought it, why not contact the manufacturer of your card directly via email? I'm sure they would be more than willing to handle your request.

Could you give us the specific brand and model of your card?

First off, as above, it would help to have the band/model. Some manufacturers might cover this. Try to get an RMA direct from the manufacturer if the retailer will not co-operate.
If that isn't a possibility, then I/d suggest the following options -
You could run it as it is, but you are going to get massive vibrations and the fan will probably die quicker than it would if it were balanced. As far as replacing the fan, it depends what sort of fan it is., some of them have proprietary mounting holes, so getting one that will be a straight swap can be tricky.
Another option is to zip-tie a normal 80mm fan onto the heatsink, and plug it into your motherboard fan header.
Finally, you could consider aftermarket cooling, and replace the entire cooler.

one fin will not affect performance much if any. if you have to rma in future asus is pretty good company to deal with.

I usually like balance.. so break a fin off of the opposite side for balance.

BTW I have done this on a 120mm fan with decent results!!

Thanks for the welcome and all the help guys. I really appriciate it:) This is the exact card I have

I've not heard back from the retailer yet but thanks I'm definatley going to give Asus a call if I can't get an RMA from the retailer. I've been looking about for a replacement fan / after market cooler and the only thing I can find are water blocks:/ the vibrations from the fan make my whole case shake it's crazy. But things could be worse. The post about snapping another fin off made me:)

Pretty sure you can send it in for repair. You can try your luck and say it came like that LOL.

But it might be time for you to try out WCing. Just a GPU loop.

Seems a bit critical don't you think? Physical damage is the responsibility of t he owner not the retailer and it was well past the 30 days unless he got some sort of accidental protection but from his results I doubt he did.

If it's a clean break, and you have a decent eye for it, you can use krazy glue and glue the fin back on, just be sure to only use enough glue to cover the side that need to be bonded and make sure it adheres in the final position as its going to be brittle.

I have done this before with an old msi 470 twin frozr and tbh the fan might have ended up quieter than it was originally (lol) Just be sure you get it right or else your going to have turboprop plane taking off in your case.

Most of the time, here in the EU the retailer is responsible for honouring the warranty via the manufacturer for the full warranty period. You only should have to contact the manufacturer as a last resort smile.gif
Don't know where the OP is from but from the way he phrased it I assumed this was the case.

I agree though, as it is physical damage both the retailer and manufacturer are well within their rights to tell him to 'go fish', but its worth a try?
