Upgrading to an i5-2500k build, any suggestions?

Hey everyone,
I'm new to OC.net and hopefully I'm not in the wrong section here LOL!

This week I'm planning on a big upgrade on my PC.. from AMD to Intel. I have started to "list" my items, and they will change if item with the same feature but different brand goes on sale (Hopefully Black Friday).

This is what I've got so far, any thoughts or changes I might want to make?

[My current build]
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE
GPU: Radeon HD 6850 1GB
MOBO: Asrock m3a770de motherboard
PSU: 750w PSU
HDD: 1 TB HDD
CPU Cooler: CM Hyper 212+

[What I want to upgrade]

CPU - Intel i5 2500k
GPU - 2x Crossfire Radeon HD 6850, or Nvidia GTX 570?
(I can't decide which, if I go CF 6850 then I'm not "future-proof" instead of getting the GTX 570 and possibly get a 2nd one later in the future. But then GTX 570 is bit more expensive.)
MOBO: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 or ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z LGA 1155 Intel Z68?

PSU: Keep previous
HDD: Keep previous

CPU COOLER: Corsair H80? (I heard the previous models before H80 the fan couldn't be controlled and were quite loud)

[All the previous parts will be given to my dad, who wants a brand new PC from his really old eMachine]

Please give me suggestions.. I'm new to Intel and can't decide which is good or not.. and the GPU. ARGHHHH frown.gif

Thank you.

My ideas?

Keep one 6850, Wait til kepler (GTX 6xx) or the ATI 7xxx series, which isn't too far off, and is a definite future proof. (Just read the bit about giving the bits to your dad.. I'd buy a place holder if possible, I got a 470 for cheap and it plays Skyrim/BF3 maxed and I'm happy with it)

Get a high-end air cooler rather than a H80, Such as a Thermalright Silver Arrow / Noctua NH-D14 which are cheaper and cool the same/bit better, just bear in mind they're HUGE. Also, Don't forget the Antec range (Kuhler 620/920?), as a 920 outperforms a H80 i think.

I'd keep the GPU and perhaps get an SSD. You'll notice the difference, and like Voodoo said, the next generation of GPUs will be coming soon-ish. (emphasis a bit on ish...not immune to delays ;p ). I wouldn't upgrade a 6850 to a 570gtx, and there're always trade-offs when going with a multi-GPU set up... *shrug*

I'm enjoying my H50 cooler: it cools well (though, it has two AP-15's) and it's not huge. That said, anything someone recommends on here will suit you well. Hell, I'm also quite satisfied with the 212+ on our other machine. I think it comes down to 1) How far you plan on pushing it 2) What you're comfortable installing and 3) What case you're installing it in.

Keep in mind the Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z is kind of limited in the PCI slots. If you ever did xfire you would only be left with 1 PCI/e slot. The Asrock Extreme3 Gen3 is a pretty good mobo from what I've seen and at a good price tag.

As for the GPU it depends on what resolution you're running. 1080 and below another 6850 should hold you over for a while. Keep in mind new GPU's are coming out soon though.

If that's the case I would probably go for the 570 and grab another later if needed.

For the cooler depending on how far you want to overclock you can always just get another CM 212+, should keep your temps good up to 4.5GHz.
