LOL I bought Skyrim key from Intkeys last week and Steam took it off my games list - Page 5

There is nothing wrong with buying these keys. They are in no way illegal. The problem here (as others have stated) is that they are for Russia. When these companies first got the key Steam didn't have any issues with this and you could play fine. A few days after launch Steam or Bethsada no way to know who made it to where they would be locked by region. The CD key site I go to plainly states this on the front page and is no longer selling Skyrim keys because of this.

I'm sure if you talk to them you can get your money back or another game.

People need to get off their high horse.

Er no it doesn't. I have the retail disk and it installed from that.

He bought it from a legit source. If he lived in Russia there wouldn't be an issue. It's the same as R5 movie releases. They release it at that price to glean what profit they can in a region where it will probably be pirated. Why buy digital? Even when it's not sketchy, it's cheaper than physical copies on sale usually. I'm surprised more publishers don't do more with region locking though.

OP didn't complain really. It was a more "dun got caught". Sketch is sketch.

Actually if you live in the United States and purchase a key for a game released in the united states region, but you purcase a version for a different region you may be violating both copyright law and digital millinium trade laws if you register and use that game in the United States. And that is beyond normal steam Terms Of Service violations.

That makes no sense what so ever. What about back in the Playstation 1 days when people would buy Japanese rpg's from overseas. Was the purchase of those games illegal?

Actually digital media copyright laws have changed since the play station 1 came out. If you purchase an out of region play station 3 game today yes you could be violating trade and copyright laws in the US.

I was also looking at Skyrim on Intkeys. I read that this key could not be activated on Steam and as a result did not buy it from there.
Yah...I think buying Steam CD keys from third party vendors sounds illegal. You have to question where they acquired the keys from and if developers even profit from those sales.
