SB-Es extra 15% IPC combined with 33% more cores (even if these extra cores get clocked 10-20% lower) will crush these Opterons
AMD can't magically produce hidden performance. It's not like Interlagos is that big of an improvement over the Magny-Cours outside of encryption/decryption, which makes the Bulldozer-architecture look worse by every minute.
I'm no expert by any means, but what I see is not impressive: 3-5% higher power consumption and 0-10% more performance (outside of encryption) does not make a good product.

I believe AMD"s prices are usually lower for the same performance especially at the very high end.

Cine, and all that other garbage does not reflect real world performance. Never has, never will. Just like those crummy 3dmarks crap. I'd be shocked if the people who rank CPU performance based on Cine and or 3dmarks could find their elbow blindfolded.

3DSMax and Blender are real world applications. Just because you never heard of them does not mean it is not real world. rolleyes.gif

I don't mean to sound mean, but I think you are having troubles reading. If you read the post, you would have seen "beyond a couple". You even mentioned 2 real world applications. Couple = 2.

:/

Actually just presented a paper on hyper-threading that referred to Blender on Friday. Hypocritically of me, I also stated Cine benchmarks. tongue.gif
