Just curious but whats the difference between pci express slots like on that biostar, the one is 4x and the other two 16x? I'm assuming is has something to do with memory bandwidth and since the ram is shadowed one card doesnt need as many pins or somethin?

erm, .. bit out of my depth here..

I noted that the Asus top boards did both, I rem from when I was doing (I am new to gaming but not OC'ing, I used to build media style rigs) crossfire, the bandwidth multi would drop.

I saw an Asus (expensive) that had 4 PCIE slots, and on the spec it said it would do 16 and 16 if you picked the right slots. well thats what i took from it.

I have a Gainward Phantom 1GB (in sig) that is for silent gaming, most of my stuff is for the quiet life lol and my phantom RAWKS! i get 60fps on most games. i have it OC'd by about 10% and it's still quiet. i like to hear my music (im actually trained as a musician). i'm just learning about SLI and XFire myself, I have only been PC gaming since about autumn.

but I don't really have a comparison, as I don't have BF3.

edit: y'know if you just copied xd 's rig except use the phenom I don't think you could go wrong. just a thought :-)

Ok so im at a stand still. Ive got $340 for a vid card, i sold my old vid card, mobo and ram to someone and im ordering that biostar mobo, 2x4gig 1600 ram, now, at $340 for 2 gtx 550ti 2gb's, or $339 for gtx 570 or $269 for a gtx 560 ti 2gb. I cant decide, if games, mind you at 1600x900 are gonna require more then 1 gig of ram...how much more? I want to say i should go with the 560 ti 2gb so i have just snag another later when i have the money. Then again thats a 570...but 1.2gig ram, so even in sli i could only get that 1.2gig so what is the best option as far as this goes. Thanks again

let me get this straight, you have NO video card now ?
corsair vengeance ram rocks in my opinion. people choose it or g-skill ripjaws.
the video card is your call. the vram with only help with aa, texture pre-loading and the like as far as i know. it'll help with minimum frames too but i dont know to what degree. im not a video card pro. i just read reviews and go for the best i can afford and hope i was right. and i usually go for the bang for buck cards.
with your resolution, 1.2g would be enough BUT, ive read a lot of threads in the bf3 forums about vram and lack thereof. if you can get or find a 448 core 560 ti, by all means grab it. its a great card.
too bad you dont like amd cards. the 6950 2gb trades blows with the 560 ti 448 core. its usually cheaper and isnt a special run card. youll still find them later if you want to crossfire.
too bad im wishy washy about cards for you. i can honestly say this though. you like nvidia, go 448 core. you like amd, go 6950. either way youll be happy. theyre both great cards. the 6950 will save you a few bucks.

so 448's wont be around very much longer, its kind of a limited time only thing. I wouldn't be afraid to grab one, but if you do get the 570, you could always grab another in the future and have matching cards, where with the 448 you might not be able to.

yea thats what im reading, kinda sucks really cause i was almost decided on the 448 after reading reviews and went to look and seen that some of them were already running out. Hoping in the next week the 570's might go down a little bit. Still waiting on tax return anyway so guess i will just see when i have the money in my account lol

Back to the subject at hand...that was a long side track. When i get this new mobo and stuff in hand whats the best method for oc'ing that proccessor? Increase fsb till it wont boot, back off some, up multiplier till wont boot, back it off some. up voltage slightly and repeat?

Ok so ive decided, 560 ti 2gb card, will sli it later. What im wondering is, my psu is 6 years old, the Antec TP3-650. Should i go ahead and get a new psu? cause i found a case i like with a cooler master psu thats 80+ certified with a 5 year warranty thats a combo deal with a case that will be perfect cause the sides flare out some, extra room for the cpu cooler? i think so lol http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.829186 theres the link to the combo deal. Would that be a good psu to replace mine? Don't wanna get all this stuff and my psu crap out so gonna get another one just wanna know if thats a good one.

that card will treat you very nicely. thumb.gif

that is a good case and power, but consider this. If you have the money to do it, you should get a power supply now that will support your future sli. I have an extra power supply lying around because I bought a small one for my one card, and had to buy a bigger one when I went sli.

learn from my mistakes lol.

you might just keep your current one, and replace it when you sli, then you don't have to buy two expensive supplies.

cooler master makes exceptional cases and psu's though, don't be afraid to grab one.
