i5-2500K stock cooler not recognized

Thread Starter
I built a computer recently with an asus p8z68-v lx motherboard and an i5-2500k. I noticed earlier that it was idling at 70* Celcius which I have never checked the temperature before but it was in red so I noticed. I go into the ASUS AI Suite II and it says there is no cpu fan available. I see it spinning but not near as fast as my gfx or case fan. Any ideas on why it wont recognize the fan so my cpu is not overheating constantly?

Did you plug the fan into the 4 pin mobo header so it can read the rpms? Also try reseating the cooler.

It is possible that the fan header is undervolted or faulty. I have the same problem on my Gigabyte mobo -- the OPT Fan header operates at too low of a voltage with no way of adjustment.

Go into the Bios and check the CPU temp, AI Suite could be mis-informed (software usually is).

Also check the CPU fan speed RPM whilst your in there.

Do you have any non-stock CPU coolers that you can test? You might just have a bad fan.. that or a bad motherboard header.

Make sure there isn't any dust or something on the contacts. Check your BIOS and make sure you don't have some odd setting that is preventing your CPU fan from adjusting RPM based on temperature.
What does the hardware monitor on your motherboard report the rpm as?
Uhmm you could try plugging in a different fan in that header. If it still doesnt report anything then there is probably something wrong with your mobo.
Yes you can run you cpu with its fan not spinjing. Just dont load it wih anything intensive. Just boot it up and see if a different fan registers.

Please dont tell me you dont have any other fan. Even a case fan will do.

Unplug the stock cooler fan and then plug in a different fan.
No need to remove the heatsink.
ANY FAN WILL DO.
