Why ATI has CAPs profile for crossfire and Nvidia doesn't have profiles for SLI?

Thread Starter
Couple of questions about Crossfire versus SLI:

  1. Why ATI has CAPs profile for crossfire and Nvidia doesn't have SLI CAPs?
  2. Why some of the ATI CAP updates disables crossfire for some games? Shouldn't it be enabling them?
  3. Will Crossfire be different in 7xxx series? Because I am currently not pleased with having to disable crossfire to run most games (11.11 CAP2)?

1: Not 100% sure on this, but one of the recent graphics driver releases from Nvidia allowed Fermi cards to downclock when not in use to reduce heat and power consumption, and then go back to stock or over clocks when a GPU-demanding task is started. Rather than having an application where users manually pick and choose whether or not programs should be run with the GPU, I guess Nvidia has decided to automate it all.

To slightly address 2 and 3:

Not all games can run in CF optimally, this may be a fault of the game itself and the way it was designed, or the drivers themselves. Rage for example doesn't officially support CF to my knowledge, you're better off with a single card.

In general I stray away from SLI/CF setups just because I've seen too many threads of users getting frustrated that certain games can't support it to its fullest extent.
