What are you getting for fps and are you running vsync?

Anywhere from 30~45 with vsync, normal since it's a console port.

Yeah, I have having unexpected crashes to the desktop even with my gtx460. I've only had two in like 15 hours of play time though. Like everyone else is saying, just hang tight till the patch. thumb.gif

Grab DXToy and use it to cap your FPS at 58fps. Worked heaps for me. CTDs are gone, video card temps are heaps lower and the wierd water flickering issues have gone as well.

Same here with a hd 6970, two CTD in 28 hours of play time. I played for 9 hours straight yesterday and had 0 problems with anything graphical and had no CTD's or other bugs the whole time of playing.
This game has really brought my impression of Bethesda up tremendously from a company where you were pretty much expected to play a game that ran like a POS. To a game maker that can actually deliver a game that is bug free.
That and the fact this game is freaking awesome the last time I played any game for more than 1 hour was the first time I played COD 4 multiplayer back in 07...

A second card won't help. The game is extremely CPU limited. Take that from someone running 580 sli and core i7 930 @ 4.1 ghz.

Thread Starter
Cool, thanks for all the fast replies. Will driver sweeper tomorrow after work and see where that gets me... I removed vsync and upped the water textures a bit in the game file (no added file modding) so could be that. Doesn't crash often so not a big deal, was more concerned about the gpu usage. I think my card may be a lemon anyhow, makes strange noises when I boot, but pretty sure its just the back fan getting stuck, sounds awful either way; maybe somethere here? redface.gif

Can't wait for something along the lines of Qarl's texture pack to overhaul the game though, already looks amazing... be sweet to see what the TES community can do with it.

Out of curiosity, is this the same engine they ran Oblivion with?

I'm getting 50s outdoors, and 20s in towns with my 6970, I'm using a modded INI though, I have everything but the shadows maxed in the DNA ini configurator.
The game feels fine though and has only crashed when using STEAM's web browser.

I've seen the game maxed on a 6950 2GB at 1080p and there weren't any issues.

As for myself, I crashed to desktop almost every 15 minutes until I changed my sound to 24 Bit 44100Hz(Studio Quality) since then it hasn't crashed.

Turn AA to 2x if you even have it on. Before I turned AA to 2x I was getting the same FPS as you. @ 2x I get a constant 60FPS no matter what.

You cap your game at 58? Doesn't that mess with your eyes? I'm assuming your monitor's refresh rate is 60. I have mine set at 70 fps so that the cards have a bit of a cushion to work with. That way it's not too noticeable when the cards take a hit, it just doesn't go below 60.
