BF3 unplayable, please help: screen "flashing", stuck in windowed mode, negative mouse accel

So being stuck in windowed mode isn't a big deal. Negative mouse accel that can't be turned off means I just simply won't ever play the game, but seeing as I paid 60 bucks for it I'd like to at least play 1 round.

The big problem is that no matter what, when I launch the game, I get this weird flashing. It's not like a graphical flicker that many people are talking about on the internet. What I get is like every 1 second or so, my whole screen (including task bar, etc, since the game is in windowed mode) flashes black. Then the picture comes back for 1 second and it flashes again. If I click on the maximize/minimize button at top right, it stops the flashing, but then as soon as I click inside the game window the flashing starts again.

Any ideas? I've been googling for 4 hours with no luck. Going to try to get a refund tomorrow since I heard you could do that if you bought through origin.

lower the resolution and graphics options.

close all other running programs.

flashing may be a driver issue with your gpu or ur system is simply not able to run the game at the current graphic settings.

leme know what happens.

That got it, thanks so much! I feel like an idiot for not trying it, but simply lowering resolution did the trick. For some reason I can't play on the max res my monitor supports, but if I go one step lower in resolution the flashing stops and it goes into fullscreen mode. Weird.

I guess we have to just wait and hope they patch the negative accel/speed cap thing?

May I ask perhaps if your res is 1600x900? I have had this exact same experience on my work PC. I just got a 6870 for it and was excited to see how well it performed only to get the stupid flashing screen. If change res then go back to 1600x900 it will work, but I have to do that everytime I relaunch the game. Quite annoying.

no prob.cheers!

and for the negative accl. thing, its related to FPS.more the FPS,lesser the negative acceleration.

Yessir, 1600x900. Maybe it's something specific about that resolution.

I'm pretty sure it's not actually negative acceleration, it's that there is a speed cap on how fast you can move the mouse. Above a certain point, no matter how fast you move the mouse, the cursor will always go the same speed. This is probably carry-over from console controller joysticks. You could probably get around this problem by setting in-game sensitivity higher and lowering mouse dpi to compensate, or something. PITA though.

I have seen several others with this same issue and I do believe it is the resolution. A couple others I saw had same exact res. Hmmm...
