PC shutting down and starts back up after 5 seconds...

Thread Starter
I have recently bought a Sapphire HD6970 2GB. I have a 600W PSU. Sometimes while playing Battelfield 3 my PC just powers off, then after about 5 seconds it starts back up. The card max temp in the game is about 80 or so degrees.
I am leaning towards PSU, but what do you think? I just need some confirmation from the pro's out there smile.gif

few months ago my 5770 and my ram(corsair xms3 1x4gb ddr31600) died and  something similar happened.

it used to power up with all the fans, hdd, and leds on then within 3 seconds auto power off then power up again.this kept happening until i had to unplug the psu.mind u there were no beeps.

so based on my experience, something wrong with the GPU or RAM.

I would definitely start by re-seating your graphics card, memory, SATA cables, etc. Even unplug your power cables and plug them back in. Be sure all your PCI cards are sitting nice and flat in their sockets when you are done.

then try to re seat the gpu.

n how old is your PSU.600W should be sufficient but if its old and starting to die, then the problem may be with your psu(4890 will not put as much load on your psu as the 6950)

I will try the reseat tonight. The PSU is about 2-3 years old now. According to the online psu calculator all the stuff in my pc needs about 636W of power... so if it's accurate enough that would explain it?

Could you let me know which psu calculator you're using? Some are much more, umm, conservative then others. Thanks!

Ok, honestly that's the psu calculator I use and have for years. I trust it more then some others out there. If it says you need more you may very well need more, although someone like Pheadrus could come in and debunk it, because he actually knows an iota about the subject matter. tongue.gif

Hehe cool. I checked it with my old GPU and it calculates well under 600W. Seems like this 6970 baby is more hungry than I thought. yessir.gif
