I read the whole thing. I truly think that this was a work of art.
Good Job, Fellow Stranger thumb.gif

Even though PC Gaming MIGHT die, there will be someone else who will continue PC Gaming, And will will make a new generation for PC Gamers.

I seriously hope PC gaming never dies off. To be honest though hasn't Pc gaming been dying off since .....well since forever??? I think theres a few things wrong with gaming in general now and in absolute honesty we have no one to blame but ourselves as a collective. Whether PC or Console games have just gotten lazy, sloppy, ugly, crappy, buggy whatever word ending in Y that you want to use. To tell you the truth it is very very true of movies as well. I think something like half or greater of next years movies are either sequels or "reboots" which is another word for formulaic CRAP or unoriginal ripoff.

Developers have to eat, this is a basic fact of life. In order to eat they need to generate revenue for themselves and their families. So they look for a publisher. The publisher swoops in like a slicked back hair used car salesman telling them this steaming pile of **** just over there is the greatest car EVAR,EVAR!!! they promise them this, promise them that, and all they need in return is for them to follow this TEMPLATE TO THE LETTER!!!! Random hero X discovers he has hidden ability Y and must stop dasterdly villian Z. The developer, starving no doubt and probably facing eviction or divorce sells his soul and his art to the publisher in exchange for the moolah. Grappy rushed graphics, generic story, rehashed everything, bugs, glitches, whatever you want, it's all in there because the publisher has some deadline to meet in order to exploit the stupid minds of stupid youth by some stupid holiday.

And here's the kicker. ITS OUR FAULT. every single one of us gamers either fell for it at some point or continue to fall for it today. WE BUY THE ****. over and over and over again we buy it. we ***** and moan and kick and scream and stand in a line at midnight or press enter at midnight or whatever we do when we do it, but the sad fact is we tolerate it. Sure we go to forums and we proclaim how NEVER AGAIN will we buy this or buy that or yadda yadda but next year when the inevitable sequel comes out with NEW FEATURE J!!! we do it all over again.

Our entire life now down to the clothes we buy,the shows we watch, the music we steal, the games we play are derived from some marketing formula thats used and abused day after day after day and we continue to support it with our revenue.

sorry, got off on a tangent there, actually ha d a point I was getting to but now it's time to go home..more to come

Be careful, sir. Improper text walls can demolish entire lives, beliefs, and appetites.

The article has been rewritten. It's actually shorter now.
It flows a little better, the grammar isn't terrifying, and it better discusses the points that I was trying to make.

It's an article instead of a rant now. Which is why I renamed it.

Enjoy.

If you read it before, I would read it again if you want. It's a good bit different.

"A wall of text kilt my pah!!!" Thanks. Yeah I got going there.

My main point after a night of rest is this. We are to blame for the current state of all gaming. Console Pc or Mobile. We toss our hard earned money at half ass crappy ports of ports and sequels. We complain but we don't ACTUALLY discontinue support for the product or company.

As for PC gaming specifically. Someone else said it earlier, alot of it is how directx is built. My thoughts are this. If developers and publishers stress how they cannot account for PC hardware configurations then they should do A) build a build for each level low mid high per card maker (nvidia/ati) or B) Build an uber uber build and create an engine that downscales accordingly to the hardware its running on. C) push out a modest game but have FULLY OPEN modding support so that eager pc modders can come up with their own super builds. D) card makers need to make fewer variations of cards so developers can depend on knowing the hardware out there.

Truth be told though...it's all about money...ALL ABOUT MONEY and they make more money from joe casual who will not put the time into expanding his knowledge to build a pc and just wants to play madden on the couch while drinking a 6-pack or some 4 year old who doesn't mind replaying the same mario game we've all played for 20 years.

That's asking a whole lot from a developer. I doubt there would be any money at all in it for them to put that kind of development into an engine. Not to mention, keeping it updated with new hardware. It's just purely and utterly impossible. It's not even just improbable. I'm not going to act like I know what goes into building a game engine, but it's not like optimizing it for a 470 and then for another card is just a couple lines of coding. They engine would have to be built again from the ground up. And all for a tiny market of gamers.

I love playing on the PC just as much as any of us, but I wouldn't even ask that of any company.

right. and I get that. To a degree I also agree with it even if I listed it as a potential route for pc game developers, but at the same time....I am pretty sure they are also greatly exaggerating their claims that its impossible to build for pc because of the varying degrees of hardware configs out there. I'm sure that there is a middle ground they can shoot for or a high road without having to redo their engine every single time. They could also open up modding or ACTUALLY support the game post launch with updates and tweaks and things like that. I say that last statement simply because when you go around and read developer chats, blogs, livestreams, interviews, whatever the case...they always claim how HUGE of a gamer everyone is at the "office" how HARD WORKING everyone is and how DEDICATED they all are to ensuring the highest quality etc etc, yet very rarely do you see any truth to back this up.

Eventually 1 of 2 things is going to happen. Either hardware and software developers are going to work more closely together to ensure that gaming as a whole stays innovative and cutting edge, especially PC gaming (which i would journey so far as to say has spurred the great majority of technology enhancements we've had in the last few decades even if they won't admit it) OR they will continue down this path theyre on currently and sure they will make some money along the way but eventually even joe casual and molley angry birds player will get sick of the same crap, they just take longer to get there. And if that is the route they go, then the market they once made money on will dry out completely, not subtly, not gradually, but almost overnight as an even more interconnected network of internet users spreads a wave of anger and dissatisfaction around the globe in a matter of hours, days, weeks.

In this day and age of INSTANT GRATIFICATION where it PAYS to churn out crap after crap after crap with regards to gaming, the same wave carrying them will be the same wave dropping them off at the homeless shelter because now ANGRY BIRDS 52 and COD:MBFBC37 and Resident Zombie:Vampire edition is sooooooooooo 10 seconds ago and its on to the new thing...Hopscotch maybe :-)

I agree with the fact that the PC community will eventually die...But only because of the social stigma that goes with it.

For example, when i am out with friends, I never ever talk about PC gaming or overclocking or anything computer related because it just creates a situation in which they say "OK sure you nerdy mofo" after i had to explain to them how you play CoD on a PC....

The generally popular kids I know who play PC games and stuff never tell anyone they do, they only talk about that stuff in the privacy of the man cave in the company of fellow gamers.

on the flip side, you can talk about how you got no-scope headshot in CoD on xbox and kids dont trip at all.

Its honestly really annoying.

As much as I love PCs and tinkering with hardware, there has just been so much drama lately I've been wondering whether it's even worth it anymore. I just read an article where Ubisoft basically announced the end of their PC support. How long until other companies do the same? How long until WE get tired of it and just give up and move to consoles? I see friends who game on console and it's just so simple. A game comes out that they want, they go buy it, they play it and have fun.
