Corsair K90 or Ducky Shine?

Now I know this must be a silly question but here it goes:

I can get the K90 for $124 shipped or the Ducky Shine for $148 shipped

I'm considering getting the Corsair K90 because it is cheaper, Cherry MX Red switches, has media and macro keys, usb hub, headphones/mic jack, and I think it looks nicer. And it has a wrist wrest too!!!

However, the Ducky Shine is a superb board from what I'm hearing. It will definitely beat Corsair in quality from what I've heard and that is quite a feat. Also, it is fully mechanical, unlike the K90(doesn't bother me though). Unfortunately, the one from Tiger Imports is brown only (I could get a red from Qtan, but that would be $180) and I'm not sure if brown would bother me since I am a gamer (and therefore want red). Wrist wrest costs extra though frown.gif

This is a legitimately tough decision for me... what do you guys think?

Sounds to me like you realize the pros and cons of both keyboards and still want the K90...so get that.

I highly doubt while gaming that you will notice much of a difference at all between MX Browns and MX Reds. The tactility of MX Browns is so little that during button mashing that happens while gaming you don't even notice the tactility of the switch.

Personally, I'd go with the Ducky over the Corsair without a second thought.

My girlfriend uses a mionix zibal 60 (cherry mx black) and I use a ducky shine cherry mx red. both the actuation force and typing sound is noticeably different. that said, i prefer the reds any day

What does that have to do with what I said? I was comparing MX Browns and MX Reds, not MX Blacks, which are significantly heavier than MX reds or MX Browns.

I don't understand why many people feel this way. Sure the K90 isn't fully mechanical. That will lose a lot of sales, but for people like me who can put that aside, it is a very appealing keyboard. Ducky is a basic keyboard, has NKRO I believe, no USB or jacks, no macro keys, no wrist wrest and costs more! The only way I would consider getting the Ducky Shine over the Corsair is if the Ducky is leagues ahead in terms of build quality.

HWI, do you predict the Ducky to beat the Corsair in build quality? I know Corsair is hard to beat with a lot of components. Or is it just the not-fully mechanical that loses your interest? I feel like a move like that will create a lot of questions about the build quality, if a mechanical keyboard is using some rubber domes.

Personally, I'd go for the Ducky Shine. The only other factor you should consider is ease of resale. Demand for a used Ducky shine will be greater than that for a K90/K60. While the fact that the K90/K60 aren't fully mechanical doesn't bother you, it bothers a substantial amount of other people. Enough people that it will probably shrink your resale market considerably.

It's hard to say. Generally Corsair has good quality, but the delays are always worrisome. One thing that I think could impact the quality is how the switches are more exposed, if the keyboard were dropped or put into a backpack with other objects I would imagine that it would be highly likely to break the stems off some of the switches. Personally, macro keys and a wrist rest are negatives to me, further putting the Ducky ahead of the Corsair. It having rubber domes is a massive down mark in my book.
