I think it may just change the timing of each core slightly, a bit like spectrum spread does on the busses. They say it can increase stability slightly if you play with them. It probably distributes the power draw of each core more evenly, rather than all 4 clocking instructions at once, causing a simultaneous power draw on the CPU core supply. I may be wrong though. Maybe someone more in the know can help here? smile.gif

are we talking about cpu voltage or acc values? it seems like they are getting confused

I think its the acc values - TBH I'm not up on exactly what they do, so i left them default at 0% on my board. I don't see that there would be % settings for each core under the voltage settings. I think all the cores are on a common supply? I know the memory controller is separate, but I thought all the cores shared the same supply.

need some help. i unlocked all my cores and wife played on the pc doing normal stuff(web browsing, photo editing) and it worked fine. i played a few games and it bsod. im guessing i need to up the voltage but havent played with one of these in forever. any suggestions?
The BSOD code may help diagnose whats needed - for example a 0x124 code usually means you need more Vcore....

This May help. Where it says increase the QPI/VTT, you should bump up your CPU-NB Voltage. At least, thats what I did when overclocking my unlocked athlon. Also, I would download Prime95 for testing the stability, If it passes 24hours of that, it will game no problem. And keep an eye on your temps. smile.gif

OK, i was able to get it some what stable(no crashes for 2 days gaming and playing around with encoding). I am unlocked, at stock clocks and if i go with 1.45 or under in bios, it BSOD on me. at 1.465 it runs great. what program do you use to monitor temps on an unlocked cpu??

EDIT: found hardware monitor and forgot to mention im on stock cooling and idling at 45C LOL. need to replace TIM bad i guess.

Ahhh! OK, one downside to unlocking, is you loose the ability to monitor each core, but in Hardware monitor, you should find a temp that relates to the overall temp of the chip. You really don't want this temp going over 55C, I found my own chip thermal throttled at this temp or thereabouts. You should check the temp while running a load on the chip for at least 30 mins - I use Prime95 to load up the cores on the chip for testing. Any faults in this, you have an unstable unlock/overclock. Most people when overclocking test the CPU with Prime95 for 24 hours. I've seen my chip fail a test after 22 hours, and had to nudge my voltages a little.

Another program you want to get your hands on is CPUz. WIth this you can monitor your bus speeds, core speeds, and importantly, your Vcore voltage. At stock clocks 1.465v sounds a little high, but I take it this is your BIOS setting, which may not be accurate. CPUz will show you what the chip is actually running at. you want your Vcore as low as you can get it, with the chip running stable, as that lowers your overall temps of the CPU. But you do have to increase it at times for stability, especially overclocking. My chip peaks at a Vcore of 1.52V on CPUz, and I had to increase my CPU-NB voltage (this is the voltage of the memory controller part of the CPU) which is at about 1.31V I think, I can't remember the exact figure. I aimed to overclock to 4GHz, which I eventually got to, but had to tweak the voltages to get there. I currently run at 4020MHz - but temps at load are high, and I really need to jump to watercooling. But while i'm financially embarrassed, its a wee while away.

So yes use BOTH the Vcore and CPU-NB voltage to stabilize your chip - watch the load temp of the CPU - this is the more important thing, and really, if temp run too high, start looking for a better cooling solution for your chip. Stock cooling may not be enough for the unlocked chip. And Try Prime95 for 24 hours, If your PC passes that, it should be pretty rock solid in gaming. smile.gif

Hope that helps.

Oh, and PS remember to use the pea method with your TIM, not spread, as it can cause air bubbles!

I have unlocked AthlonII X3 445 into QuadCore AMD Phenom II X4 B45.
th_Izrezak.jpg
That is very nice but it wont go above 3.4 GHz..
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2418980
I had problems with two RAM chips sold as Kingmax but they where Crucial with different timings http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2415954.
So when I took them out PC runs fine(at 3.4GHz). It would bi nice to have 100 or 200 MHz more but any other number I set for Bus Speed I got blue or black screen.
None of this options work:
th_ramnotworking.jpg
733MHz option is the only one that works if I wont to go above 215 MHz Bus Speed.
th_ramfreq.jpg
CPU temp at 3.4 GHZ is 56*C when testing:
th_Izreak.jpg
MBO is Asrock 880G Extreme3. If anyone has any idea how to get 200 MHz more will be glad to hear.

Hey,

I use to have an unlocked B50 - If I provided a picture of the validation, could I join?

EDIT: Here's the picture, thankfully I had one via Photobucket!

I have a B73 and it is definitely not unlocked. Can't do much with it. But it was $39 last month from Microcenter so meh. 3 core 2.8ghz plenty for HTPC.
