Boxed CPU cheaper than Tray/OEM - why?

I have browsed CPUs and wherever I look online I see the tray version consistently 10-15 euro above the boxed version, which does not make sense and is not what I have seen others say about the price advantage of OEM CPUs.

How can this be explained?

Could possibly be a good batch of overclocking chips from the OEM? Not to sure though... Normally would be the other way around pricing wise for boxed and OEM. Best to contact the seller and ask if it's correct.

Thing is, the prices are the same for all the sellers, I first encountered this about 6 months ago but did not think anything of it until now. I am sure if I contact one specifically they will tell me something about acclimating their prices to the market. Will try it out though, it really does not make any sense.

Usually boxed comes with a cpu cooler from the maker of the chip, also work hours/capital costs/material for boxing, that helps explain the 10-15 euro difference OVER the tray version...

I know u wrote the opposite of what i just wrote, just saying imo the site your looking at made the error...

If you find out please let us know out of curiosity? smile.gif
