depends on the chip, some top out around 4.0 from my observations, some go a bit over. I'd say the mean average with non exoctic cooling option, 4.0 seems to be the top. With more extreme cooling solutions, obviously some of the better chips can push for more.

1100T. Let bulldozer mature for a while and in the mean time overclock that 1100T over 4GHz and enjoy til then. Bulldozer B3 stepping will be out in Q1-Q2 and should have improvements that might make it worth it. Newegg has 1100T for $169.99 right now.

I don't understand how the 1100T suddenly became a good value.

Before bulldozer launched, nobody on OCN would recommend X6 chips because they don't perform much better than X4's.

But for some reason now that bulldozer has launched, the 1100T is this amazing value CPU, and the 8120 is somehow a terrible piece of crap....

that's because, we MUST .... well ..... we must .... something ... like, we suddenly have to get a cpu that we wont utilize the full power of, in any rational application we may use in our daily lives.

im still on phenom ii 965 be. i have never overclocked it in a game. i probably havent even used 50% of it even while gaming civilization 5 or skyrim in front of my 20 firefox tabs, a few of them with music and videos, notepad ++ with nppftp and 5-6 open files, pidgin with 4 different instant messenger accounts, googleatalk, and many many more. there have been times i have ran media players which are defaulted to force 96 khz resampling needlessly.

edit : forgot to add - all of these are happening while i am on eyefinity 3 monitor 5040x resolution as of this moment.

Check the system currently in my sig.
Some will clock fairly high without having to use extreme cooling methods and this one did that on H2O for cooling, obviously a 5.0 or better chip if I had that kind of cooling available for it. I know this one may be what's called a golden chip but it does take some proper tweaking to get it there regardless with a properly done setup.

As stated earlier I will be picking up a BD sooner or later, I just don't have the need to right now - This 1100T is doing all I could ask for.

I would say get the 1090/1100T.
It's better at games, uses less power and is less buggy. wink.gif

^and this guy knows..i see he went with an 1100T :thumb.gif: umm..but i'm recommending 960T for the 95-wattness wink.gif

don't you find it sad. people still recommends a Phenom II x6 over a FX 8core chip.

I'd do the same too if you already have a 990FX board or for some reason you wanted an AMD chip. If I had a 1100T right now I wouldn't trade it for a FX8150. I'm not even sure if my PSU can handle an overclocked FX8150 with two gtx 480's.

Zosma, all the way.

On that whole 8150 vs. 1100t thing, has anybody compared them after the CPU-NB overclocking?

Compared a 1090t does up to 4.2ghz @ 1.48v to my 8120 which does up to 4.5ghz on stock voltage.
With both at stock clocks 8120 is faster at every thing except floating point and a few ram tests and superpi
8120 needed to go up another 100mhz more then the 1090t (3.2ghz) to beat it in ram tests, And 200mhz more then the 1090t to beat it at floating point. This scales up all the way to 4.2ghz which is the highest I can take my 1090t.
The 8120 needed to be 300mhz more for superpi to be compareable but it doesnt scale and at the higher clocks this gap got higher. With the 1090t @ 4.2 I needed 4.5ghz on the 8120 to beat it.

Best NB clock speed for my 1090t was 2.3ghz where the best NB for my 8120 was 2.48ghz
Higher on ether gave me worse bench marks but I wasnt willing to pump too much voltage into the NB and maxed out at 1.225v and 1.32v on the cpu-nb
