Really? 8 hours down to 9 minutes? What was the model # of the old Xeon again? I have a dual - quad core Xeon system and I may throw it away if your results hold up smile.gif
post #24 of 33
Thread Starter
It was a T3500 dell workstation. The Xeon was basically one of the hex-core models that were part of the series before sandybridge. I'm guessing the sandy-bridge architecture might have done a lot to increase efficiency of how it would process it.

looks great man, one thing though. It looks like you did not put a metal cover over your res/pump in the drive bay . The kit should have come with a silver or black one you just mount up and it looks much better than the way you have it. Besides that great build if youre going from 8 hours to 9 minutes, that's a massive decrease .

We did get the cover on there after I took these pics. I couldn't find it for awhile and we weren't sure anyways if we wanted the full view of the resevoir or not, but after putting it on I do agree that it looks better. It was such a success that we ordered the parts for another water-cooled system today for another engineer. This time we opted for the 650D case and a double rad instead of the triple since the triple is probably overkill for just the CPU. My manager also gave me the go ahead to custom build my desktop at work because my Dell is starting to give off SATA errors and we figured what the hell haha. I'll start a new thread regarding that build and link it here in a bit.

**EDIT AGAIN**

I'm cheap so here are my power supply options..... This is my new favorite company, they use to be in Canada only and marketed to business, but they expanded recently.

OCZ 850W Gold PSU

OCZ Z-Series 1000W PSU (I purchased this one for my MATX Build.... Sexy, but colored gold and silver

Power supply: I always use Seasonic.
Check out this review. I found that exact one is cheaper now since they have newer models, and it's "what a power supply!".

The fans are in push? How much air flow do you need?

Yes, fans are pushing air out the top. The rad is the RX model which is twice as thick as the normal rad size (and it's a triple rad, thus the 3 fans across it), so I imagine it needs pretty good airflow. We used Yate Loon fans, which aren't necessarily the best fans on the market, but the are very good fans for the price you pay for them.
