[HWBOT] Bulldozer breaks memory World Record! - Page 6

I think it's safe to say that most of us here overclock at a level that is actually productive and useful for us. I don't know about anyone else, but sitting around pulling thousands of CPUs, thousands of single DIMMs and thousands of motherboards until you find the rock solid combination, then going crazy with liquid helium cooling to take the temperatures down into the double digit Kelvins isn't quite the same as OCing your own system that you game/fold/compile/edit/produce on.

The liquid helium dog and pony shows make me twirl my finger and go "wooo. So?" Congratulations, given enough time, money, and persistence, you can get a Bulldozer to 8.X GHz on liquid helium with only two cores benching and one DIMM installed and it'll stay there stable for five minutes or so.

I guess it's alot like a top-fuel dragster. It's fun to watch, extremely expensive, insanely fast, and essentially pointless to 99.99% of motorists.

I'm not here on OCN for CPU flagellation runs. I'm here because I like a 24/7 capable OC rig. Maybe other people came here for liquid helium antics, but in my opinion, it's flat-out stupid.

EDIT: Toned down a word.

Oh my god, this is the same thing that happened in the thread about WC frequency. It is NOT about practical speed, it's only about having a high number. Go troll somewhere else.

Lets try to keep things based on the OP guys... before some 'leashes' get handed out to some of you. No need to thread crap.

*if its not related to the OP.. just keep it moving, you dont have to put your worthless comments here.

doh.gif

But it was actually 8.5 GHz

I walked in to that one...

Let me re-phrase my question, what's the highest anyone has gone on 1M/2C with water cooling?

Yup OCN has gone downhill from the way it used to be. WR is not about practicality.

That would be what I'd say, but since AMD is in desperate need for attention they named it AMD.... I mean Bulldozer breaks record, but in fact it's the RAM and motherboard that does it.

I agree with you.
Just giving something for the trolls think about...
You have rally competitions: what are they for? yea some1 proves that he can drive a Subaru Impreza made for RALLY rly fast, what does that give us the guys who bought the subaru impreza standard edition?
Even better, a citroen wins a race vs the subaru, mitsubishi evo etc.
Is it faster compared to its stock brothers? God, hell no. Citroen barely beats the speed of 200Km/H or 120m/ph while subaru stock engine is locked at 250Km/h or 150m/ph.

Question: Why do they even bother doing races with those cars? Srsly they have nothing to do with real life cars...
Answer: FOR THE FUN OF IT? GUESS YOU GUYS NEVER DID A SUICIDE RUN ON YOUR CPU.
Its a god forsaken competition, it doesnt need to be logical, it just needs to be done.

Troll: Uhhh my car can go accross europe with 1 full tank without refilling and a race car cant, my car beats a race car.
Troll: Uhh my i5 2500k can to everyday job better than bulldozer, i5 2500k rules and all those shiz.

@Trolls: Get your fat ass off your chair and try to race a friend of yours(if you have them)
if you win what do you feel? Dont you feel a lil bit of satisfaction?
If you lose what you feel? Dont you wish you could beat his speed?

Idk why am I even trying to explain competition to these...

Considering Bulldozers performance (by that I mean it not meeting the majorities expectations) it still has a lot going for it. It has a cracking chipset at a very good price, it's breaking world records which is good and hopefully when we see BD-E we will be looking at a very positive, revised and strong chip. I think it's such a big leap in terms of architecture even the negative things are justified by it's positives.

It's just a shame about it's IPC and how much it's getting slated - the pre-BD hype hasn't helped with that at all. I really hope good things come out of Bulldozer that will be noticed, appreciated and respected as apposed to some of the voices and comments floating around the net.
