F-150 computer

Thread Starter
I got this idea today that I could put a computer in a compartment on my f-150. The coke bottle hopfully is a good refrence and yes that is 12v power for the outlet behind the seat. I thought it was perfect for this reason. Now onto the first problem, the psu. Correct me if i am wrong but a normal psu converts 120v to 12v, then 12v to 5 and 3.3. so if we take appart the psu and skip the 120v to 12v and hook the 12v car power directly to the psu so that it puts out 12, 5 and 3.3 would it work? My current plan is and AM3 build because i want an excuse to upgrade my desktop processor. I would still be running it in dual core not quad and possibly with an underclock if need be. 338

Only problem with minibox is their biggest psu is 250 watt which is nice but i would like to see if i couuld get 3-400 to be sure it will run good. Do you guts think a Phenom2 555, motherboard, and a couple usb devices could easily run on 250w? Also i had an idea that i could buy this and find a way to allow me to make changes to my ecu. I have used obdII ecu tuners before and i have seen what my friends shop's motis can do and i could probably use the computer to start the car. I like this idea because if i connect the computer to my schools wifi in the parking lot i can start my truck using vnc to access the computer and turn the truck on during my last class, like an unlimited range remote start.

my htpc (i3-2100t) runs at 30w from the wall during normal usage, so I daresay 200w will be way more than enoug

I saw awhile back on some guys thread where he made a Mini-ITX powered boat... and it was powered by a 12v battery... I forget where but he found a converter online to take a +12v DV and a ground and convert it to a 20 or 24pin PSU plug without having a giant PSU. I really wish i could remember what it was called
