Reassure me! :) DT 770 80ohms vs Ultrasone 550s?

Thread Starter
I KNOW I KNOW. I still haven't received my DT 770s in the mail yet! (HOPEFULLY TOMORROW?!?!?!?) I can't wait to get my DT 770s and finally see what all the hype is with decent headphones over crappy gaming headsets.

But recently been reading a lot about Hi-Fi to crave my hunger for my DT 770s and when the words "I like bass. $100-$200." The words DT 770 or Ultra 550s appear. Its like a plague. Yet I cannot find a single review of either or a comparison worthy of reading?

Just wondering what the differences/similarities are between these two headphones? How do they stack up against eachother? Anything that makes one stand out above the other. I'm more curious then anything.

Thanks. smile.gif

Find a review of said Ultrasone headphone in my sig. Otherwise, I believe there's a comparison at Head-Fi (might be wrong) between a couple of Ultrasones and members of the Beyerdynamic family.

OP, if you have an appropriate amp for the DT770 600 ohm, those are the better headphones to buy. They sound better in almost every way. I also recommend you modify them.

The Pro 550s sound great straight out of the box, I've never really heard anyone do any serious modifying with these. These don't require an amp like the DT770s do. You can take them on the go with your MP3 player or phone.

But in terms of SQ, that's going to go to the DT770s. DT770s modded offer great bass too and a great sound stage, better than the 550s I think.

I've never heard the Ultrasones, but by visual inspection I would guess that they're not nearly as comfortable as the Beyerdynamics, which are considerably larger and actually fit around the ears with a decent depth to the cups, with comfortable padding and materials. Ultrasones are more practical to be used around outside the home.

DT770 actually has too much bass for my tastes, but it's not like sick and totally taking over the sound signature.

There's a big difference between the DT770 Premium 32/250/600 and the DT770 Pro/80.

Well just got the DT 770s and I am amazed. They sound remarkably better then my previous G35. Much crisper, especially when I put my DG amp to 60> ohms and the bass is awesome! Awesome headphones, just awesome!

Thanks to everyone who recommended them in my last thread, especially Simca! smile.gif Awesome decision. XD

And what mods are possible to do with them? I don't think I will mod them ever but just wondering.

Dubstep sounds stellar btw. O_O

Actually these are a pretty popular model to mod, specifically the Pro 80 ohms.

Search images of "Darth Beyer" and you will not be disappointed. I'm not that familiar, but in the least, many people try wooden earcups.

Np, yep, dubstep are great on DT770s like I said. They're the go to cans for dubstep.

That's one, but it's pretty expensive. There are other easier mods as well, best to just google/Head-fi it.

Friend of mine had a pair of Ultrasone's...unsure which model though. Anyway, they crushed my ears and all I heard was bass. It was like someone slammed the right side of an EQ...ugh...yuck...eeeaaaa...nasty little things!
