Thanks for the help "PunkX 1" my board is working and I am now using AMD FX-6100 with 2x4GB G-Skill Ripjaw.
By the way, what is this about "Press F4 to Unlocked" on the Bios boot-up?

Ignore that, that's part of the core-unlocking feature of the board and the 6100 cannot be unlocked.

Hi, I have recently acquired some components and need some advice regarding using them to build a Cad/ Revit (2013) workstation. My present config is as follows:

CPU : AMD Phenom II x6 (hexacore) 1055T (2.8ghz)
CPU cooler: ASUS "silent square evo"
Motherboard : Asus M5A78-M LE (AMD 760 chipset)
RAM; Crucial 4GB 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 memory module - Unbuffered • NON-ECC (1 card - 1 free slot)
HARD DISTK : 1Tb 7200RPM Hitachi HDT721010slA360 3.5 Inch 1TB 16MB SATA HDD Saturn
VIDEO CARD : Integrated ATI Radeon HD 3000 (to be upgraded with a PCI E x 16 card - see below)
PSU : 700w
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x 64

I have been advised on revitforum.org that my best option for a PCI E GPU upgrade would be a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680. Does this sound right for my system and does this make sense ? I will be using my workstation for a LOT of rendering.

Also, I will be upgrading my ram. I have been advised that "ECC" ram would be the best but exactly what would be best ram to invest in as I may want to overclock from time to time ? I intend on replacing my existing ram module with a matching pair to max it out to 8gb. 8GB is the max ... right ?

I'm also looking for the best hardware config settings to use Cad/ Revit ?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated but I would like to stress the point that, as money is limited, I do not intend on changing my motherboard or CPU.
Thank you for reading.

CAD/Revit hints at frequent high CPU loading. At which point I would consider dumping this motherboard in favour of something with a larger VRM system for better long-term reliability and efficiently. Get rid of the ASUS aftermarket tower heatsink and return the stock cooler to cool your VRMs. Regardless, you're not ready for an overclock on this low end board anyway.

Iif your 1055T is a 125W TDP 1055T, you need a new board, period. There is no 125W TDP processor support on this board, for good reason due to the small 3+1 phase VRM system. You will get poor reliability by continuing to run your setup and you may experience spontaneous performance loss as has been recorded on boards of the same design and 125W TDP quad and hex cores.

Regarding your video card, get a midrange GeForce if you can't grab yourself a Quadro.

Thanks for your advice and it has been duly noted. Unfortunately I cannot afford to junk my motherboard and cooler just yet but I will be able to after I complete a few jobs that I have lined up. Bearing this in mind I respectfully ask if you could possibly point me in the right direction regarding upgrading my ram to speed up these last few jobs ... Is it true that I need to get "ECC" ram ? If so, what would be best.
I lived in Vancouver a few years ago for a brief period while I was working in the Sovereign boatyard in Richmond - beautiful place ! Loved it !

hi everyone, i was wondering if anyone here had an Asus m5a78l-mlx3?
I would like more info on that board's performance.
I just bought one today with an FX6100. Seemed like a good deal although i didnt like that windows 7 did not automatically install the lan driver.

My previous ECS boards lan drivers were all automatically installed by windows 7 after installation of OS. It kept the updating of other drivers from windows update much easier

I havent had the time to check its bios yet but id like some tips for optimization.
