Skyrim Performance Awful

Thread Starter
Running w/ a Core i3 2100, Radeon HD 6850, 4 GB G.Skill DDR3 RAM, plenty of power, and yet I can't even run Skyrim on low settings smoothly. I've tried a host of fixes and nothing has worked. This includes wiping display drivers and trying several different versions, skyrim nexus patches (ENB, post-process injector, LAA), etc.

What gives? What to try?

I think AMD Cards have issues with this game still. Gotta wait for hotfix.

hmmm, that's definitely odd considering you should be able to run it on high or ultra with that setup. I'll have to ask a buddy of mine if he has any issues. He's also running the game with a 6850 but I haven't heard him complaining about anything.

Well skyrim only utilizes two cores and from what i read on tomshardware , that it likes the processor at least around 4.0ghz. I have a friend that i just built a computer for and he had very good performance from a amd 955 3.2ghz and a gtx 460 , but when i overclocked his cpu , he gained around 10-15fps on average. Make sure your cpu is around 3.8 to 4 ghz and you should see a nice performance boost.

There's something majorly wrong with your setup or your drivers. It runs at 60+ FPS on high with my three year old 4850 and Q6600 setup.

Possibly.

I can however confirm that with my CPU at 2.8Ghz and a stock GTX480, Skyrim runs smooth as butter.

AMD drivers buddy, I feel your pain. I'm running the game due to sheer overkill in graphics power, but still not perfect.

Guess we'll have to wait for it... you know... likely they'll release the driver one day after we finish the game, as Murphy's law demands biggrin.gif

What gives? What to try?

what motherboard chipset (P67, Z68, H61, B65 or H67) are you using? The reason I'm asking is because I have a friend who had a very similar issue because his PC was using the integrated GPU (Intel HD3000) instead of his dedicated GPU.

I have a 6850 and I get CPU-bound and not GPU-bound.
