What I wish for the most is that devs spend more time actually WITH the gaming community. There's nothing I appreciate more when devs are working with the people playing their games... helping to find bugs, listening to ideas, updating you with information and treating you like they care. Games like Arma 2 (Bohemia Interactive) and Trine (Frozenbyte) have amazing devs that interact constantly with their game community.

I do admire where your heart is with this Phaedrus. I myself am just so doubtful change will happen and to be honest...I'm so effing worn out with companies putting out the 'big titles' these days, I really am.

I also support this!
If i can help in any way/shape/form please let me know.

Before i head to bed 2 minor complaint i can think off the top of my head is

- some shoddy PC ports that still contain in game controls stated as a console.

For example - in Dead Island, when you attempt to bash down a door it indicates and states for you to pull the "right thumb stick" back and forth in timing. (Im using a Keyboard/Mouse....)

- Game breaking bugs/performance issue resulting in a "sorry we're working on it, patch incoming in the next few days" rushed release.

For example - Red Orchestra 2 (i've not played this but i've heard the issues) or Deus Ex Human Revolution having some terrible crashing and performance issues or how about flickering green graphics and tears of Battlefield 3? Just to name a few.

Its almost foolish to pre-order games and expect to play on release (or within the first 2 weeks of) - there are always rushed, missed out issues.

Who is financing this craziness and what is the bidness plan?

Not simply basic graphic configuration, I want advanced options.

I want to chose more than 'low / med / high'.

I want, for example, to set everything to ultra and drop AA (if necessary for good fp/s), not reduce everything down to med.

Optimisation is important. On a gaming PC, I want to be limited by my GPUs; not have GPU @ 50% and the game limited by the CPU.

Although I wonder if this'll have any success, the best way to improve it's chances is

a) cross forum posting (i.e. not only OCN)

b) as well as the same letter, include a mail:to link which auto BCCs all major companies. People are much more likely to click it and hit send from their mail client.

I admire and agree with the points, but talking down to developers won't help the problem:

Put some work into allowing *basic* graphics configuration of your game.

Provide a modicum of post-release support; provide useful patches that fix problems with the game, don't cause more. This applies doubly so when you plan to release DLC for your games.

Stop treating PC gamers like whiny children, or alternatively like second-class citizens. And STOP using us as a scapegoat for your own problems.

Also, the audience you're looking to address are people with solid jobs. Why would they change things unless higher-ups tell them to? And the higher-ups won't see any reason to do that because, let's face it, a very large majority of the signatory of this letter will have pre-ordered their next big ported, underdeveloped, unoptimized game well before it comes out.

The only way to see these changes is if their current way of doing things significantly hurts them financially (which, as I pointed out above, it won't). They're multimillion dollar businesses, not student council organizations.

I think their current business model tends to encourage piracy of their games. They can significantly increase revenue from PC games, with a relatively minor increase in development costs.

I wanna know why they can't put high resolution textures for ultra settings. It is disappointing to me that Low and Ultra on BF3 look nearly identical just different lighting and farther view distance.

Low:
338

Ultra:
338

Also the performance difference for such little changes is going from 150+fps on Low @ 1920x1080 to 60+ @ Ultra.
They definitely need to step up their game...

this is going to be an odd one,

proper controller support, for racing games, i use an xbox controller, it has analogue triggers. make use of that

trees/leaves etc why do they look 2d in most games?!

possibly release 2 different versions of the same game, have one with high and up ie ultra/ultra+high res tex pack, and one low high, version for people who game more casually and dont really give 2 squirts about the graphics, and why not charge slightly more for the high end pack! (but include the option to use the low quality settings)

be aware of the fact that most pc gamers use fairly high end GPUs i mean im running a gts 450 BUT it still plays battlefield at all settings at ultra at 1920x1080, with AAoff thats a card that can be had for 60quid on ebay now! most of the proper gamers use gtx 560ti/570/580s 6950 6950 6990 etc and there FAR FAR more capable then mine.

use the cpu to scale aswell ie if i have 3 gtx580s and i have an overclocked 2500k make use of the overclock and extra clock speed.

make use of hyperthreading and multi threaded cpus and IF I HAVE 8 CORES USE THEM!!!

thats off top of my head probly dont make sense as im preeety pissed,

Not a chance. For every single PC enthusiast there are 10,000 people that just want to be able to shove in/on a game and play. Consoles will probably out live the PC in the "tradtional" sense.

Give us a way to sign on it, and spread that signup sheet around other forums. And maybe put in a link to the petition in your letter somehow (make sure its on a legit site somewhere, so they'll actually click it).

I'd sign it in a heartbeat. I'm tired of junk games, and horrible DRM (I'm looking at you EA / Origin, and MW3!).
