Help. $350 budget very light gaming pc - Page 2

A4 APU builds can be built within $200.  See this config:

AMD A4 3300 - $60 shipped [Amazon] (dual core CPU + HD 6410D graphics)

ASRock A55M-HVS - $59 shipped [Superbiiz]

Crucial 2x2GB DDR3-1600 - $22 shipped [Newegg]

Samsung DVD burner - $16 shipped [Newegg]

Sentey mATX small form factor case - $30 shipped [Newegg](For a build like this, why not save your desk space and go SFF?  I recommend (and personally build) all low end family PCs to be SFF now.  The case includes a power supply that is more than enough for this setup.

Everything for $187 shipped.

You really don't need anything more than a small form factor case and a 300W PSU for even the 100W A8 APUs because they run very cool and consume little power, and many of the APU motherboards are mATX and fit.  Save your cash!

Now try this with an A6 quad core APU (A8 is unfortunately out of stock in most places) and you get:

AMD A6 3650 - $117 shipped [Amazon] (quad core CPU + HD 6530D graphics)

ASRock A55M-HVS - $59 shipped [Superbiiz]

Crucial 2x2GB DDR3-1600 - $22 shipped [Newegg]

Samsung DVD burner - $16 shipped [Newegg]

Sentey mATX small form factor case - $30 shipped [Newegg](For a build like this, why not save your desk space and go SFF?  I recommend (and personally build) all low end family PCs to be SFF now.  The case includes a power supply that is more than enough for this setup.

Everything for $244 shipped.  Less than the cost of your original A4 config and much, much better.  I also highly suggest you wait for the A8 3850 to become in stock again as it has the more powerful HD 6550D graphics.

Thanks to overall binning/quality, you can also OC this APU very far on the stock cooler and at stock voltage, if you desire any more performance.  And/or you can buy a low profile HD 6670 or whatever pairs with your particular APU and run it in Hybrid CrossfireX with the onboard APU graphics, to increase performance.

200 is a little misleading.

200 w/out Storage and PSU.

And he wants a window to show it all off.

I think what i recommended give a better framework.
Also, it takes advantage of the current deals on performance parts.

Nope. Doing it wrong.

OP. Do not get nVidia if you're going for APU. That is without a doubt the worst decision you can possibly make.

1. If you get nVidia, you lose the performance of the integrated GPU.
2. If you get AMD Radeon HD 6000s, you get both the performance of the discrete GPU AND the integrated GPU.

TBH, I don't know what cards are compatible as crossfire. You could do some more research on your own or chat up some AMD customer support.

If you get all the rebates from the parts i mentioned and the Lian li, it comes out to about ~$340.

Be careful of what advice you consider.
Some advice may not be well thought out or specific to your needs.
Take all into consideration. Then do your own research.

I'm reading that the highest card you can use with APU/Dedicated GPU dual graphics right now is a 6670. Any higher than that, and the GPU would just bog down the dedicated card anyways.
Has to be an HD 6xxxx card to do it; can't with 4's or 5's.

Now I'm wondering if you can do an APU+2x 6670s for Trifire...

IF all he's doing is playing minecraft, then this is more than sufficient. Sure it's no hardcore gaming rig, but it seems pretty decent and at the price it's not bad at all.

Also, it takes advantage of the current deals on performance parts.

There's a PSU included with that case.  And it's honestly overkill for an APU.  So is a big case, really.  All you'd be doing with a big case is wasting space.  You can still take advantage of expandability with an APU based platform on a small form factor case, since AMD's HD 66XX are sold as low profile and can fit within these cases, improving GPU performance when it is warranted.  There are other advantages to going APU aside from simplicity; one of them is power consumption and heat.  Both are low.

Why not mod a window in by the way?  Not hard to cut up a side panel.

You can either go with this combo or focus on the case and what else and end up getting less performance for the same price.  If it were me I'd choose the "more performance" route.

By the way, NCIX US has a 50GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD for $50.  Go to online deals and get it NOW while you still can!
