Un-answered BD issues...... - Page 2

Now, as some might remember prior to BD's launch there were many threads of speculation about BD and socket AM3+ and there were some very good questions that have yet to be answered now that BD is in the wild.
A: Has anyone measured the pins on a BD to see if they are indeed thicker than AM3 cpus? This was asked because the holes on AM3+ sockets are larger than AM3 ones. (I would do this but my CPU is employed right now)
B: Has any mobo maker released a bios for the 8xx chipset mobos yet? (this was a real hot topic)
C: Are there any updates to all the mass hysteria right after launch about bad bioses and Windows scheduler?
D: Who has a BD running in a AM3 socket?
I'll look up some more or if anyone has some to add feel free to do so. Remember, keep this civil and on topic please. thumb.gif

A: FX 6100 Fits into my Gigabyte 890FX-UD5 with White Socket just fine.

B: Gigabyte did for the earlier revision 890FX-UD5

C: No idea

D: See question A. Gave it to my Brother to upgrade his old Intel Duo core. merry Christmas.

PS: BD may suck to some, but I like it.thumb.gif

Bulldozer was a disaster when I put it in my CH V for the first time, but after a few BIOS updates(+ windows updates, maybe) and OCing, runs much better

I believe it's actually only the latest and last edition that received the update. thumb.gif

what do you mean try it's nearly the same the board I'm using with my FX 8120?

the real problem with bulldozer is too much throttling protection.
things like [APM]Application power management control
cool & quite with C6
C1E.
Turbo.
also setting the priority in taskmanger and/or AOD really makes my scores a bit higher. 7.04(normal) vs 7.14(very high) vs 7.34(reatime set in AOD)

just disabling most of these will make it faster.

I'm still not seeing this as an 8 core though.

Its like a 8 core in some thing and other things its like a 4 core with hyper threading (floating points stuff mainly).

FX8120 runs great in my MSI 890FX motherboard, actually runs more stable than my Gigabyte GA-990XA was running.

Just dont blow up your MSI board with the load on the VRM's. tongue.gif

I actually killed TWO msi 790GX AM2+ boards with a Phenom 9950 140W processor within days of getting them (launch week of the bug fixed Phenoms). Im still mad about that. biggrin.gif

The fact that none of these questions have been discussed should tell you something.

No. it tells me allot. These points were argued to death here but once BD was released all people cared about was calling BD a failure. I have been thinking about that fact and realize that AMD might have been testing in-house with benchmarks that were suited to the new instruction sets they developed for BD. They should have released BD in the wild to a few users and got feedback before the launch, but then people would whine about it being late. It all makes sense now given the fact that GloFo has royally messed up things for AMD.
