Piracy is very simple. Pirating a game for SP is usually the case. If the game has MP for example SC2, BF3 pirates are not getting even 10% of the content so no loss there. If the game is SP only a pirate will get the game and not buy it. If in a year there are 10 SP game for PC, Maybe just maybe out of these 10 games he might buy one if he could not pirate. So the moral is that if he/she cant download the game for free he/she will most likely not buy the game at all.

I don't understand why we just can't go the route of having to be connected to the internet to play these titles? I mean that would eliminate the piracy would it not?

How big of an issue would that be for everyone? You wouldn't be able to play when the net is done or something like that but if it will bring more development and more games to the PC then I'm all for it.

People who pirate these games are people without jobs or in countries where these games arent even distributed. The solution would be to offer better prices for third world countries and I would be okay with DRM if it worked but it doesnt do anything to stop piracy. All it does is encourage crackers more and give them more reps.

Being both a PC and Console gamer, i'm already dreading the thought of DRM on next-gen consoles. If things go that route, i'll most likely bail on getting a next-gen console. At least with a PC i have options and choices.

The reason that I will never buy a game that says "always on internet required to play" on the box is very simple. I've already paid around R300 to R500 for a game, and now I can't play it because the Seacom cable is down? Seriously??

We don't all live in America, Europe, and South Korea. Some of us are either stuck with a bandwidth limit, here the average is 3Gigs. Even for me with an uncapped DSL, if Seacom goes down, my line is either really slow, or just plain unusable. So now because of something I can't control my expensive game is useless?

I agree publishers must get paid for their work, but I also deserve to get what I pay for. This might seem trivial for some of you but it's a big issue for me. If you want to market games world wide, then you need to make sure that your DRM is friendly to paying customers world wide.

This uncertainty is something I don't like about certain forms of DRM. A lot of times, big companies will just turn a blind eye should you face problems with DRM like install limits and always-on internet (for every second of play). I remember having problems with GFWL DRM. It took Microsoft almost 3 weeks to get me a new key and they treated me like a criminal in the process.

When devs and publishers show distrust and disrespect towards their paying customers, that is a problem.

Last year at a conference in Vegas for Gamestop managers, the ubisoft team had a booth with the new GR. Unlike the other booths where they let the managers play, this one had a ubisoft employee playing entire time. It took a few hours for everyone to realize that the guy was only pretending to play and that the game was actually a video.
