Not convinced by the Galaxy Nexus

Just wanted to ask if anyone else felt like the Galaxy Nexus was being overly hyped. As a current iPhone 4S user, I feel more attracted to the HTC Rezound than this smartphone.

The reason: the specs are simply not that good. There is that amazing 4.65" SAMOLED display which is all and good (and I do like the idea of the 720p display which the Rezound also has), but it is ultimately a PenTile display and the subpixel density is poor compared to other phones. Furthermore, yes it has 315 ppi but this is still not class leading (the Rezound is 347 ppi I believe). Other issues include the 16GB maximum memory on international non-Verizon models which is an absolute deal breaker - I have more than 40GB of music - and the plastic construction. The most glaring issue is the camera; how could Samsung possibly entertain the notion of tainting what they expect to be a flagship device with a 5MP camera which takes average shots?

Ultimately, if this is the future of smartphones, it is only so because of ICS. The phone itself is mediocre and does nothing better than any other phone on the market. The Samsung Galaxy S II, iPhone 4S and HTC Rezound are still the top tier - this one doesn't quite reach them.

Does anyone else feel this way?

I actually loved my iPhone 4, moved to GS2 for 2 weeks, loved it and found it to be much more fun to thinker with, moved back to Apple today, got myself an iPhone 4S and all I can say is I prefer iPhone even though I loved my Android experience with ROMs and everything.

I personally find the Galaxy Nexus a lil bit disappointing in term of specs. The screen is huge and might be a lil bit too big, 4" would be the perfect size, let's hope we get a bigger screen with the iPhone 5.

I dunno, I think it'll live up to its hype. The US version is 32GB so sucks to be on the other side of the pond for that reason. I wish there was removable storage, but the iPhone can't do it either, so meh. I find it ironic that you're complaining about it only being the second highest PPI display on the market, above your iPhone lachen.gif

Honestly i'd buy the Rezound in a heartbeat if it didn't have Sense, and was going to get ICS in short order. I might do it tomorrow despite, if the price is right. If i want, i can swap out phones when the Galaxy Nexus comes out.

I went from Cyanogenmod 7 on my Droid X to my new Rezound and it I hate. Waiting for S-off on the Rezound. HTC Sense IMO is worse than motoblur. Anyways, I quit waiting on the Galaxy Nexus. I love the Rezound. It has fantastic build quality. The device is big, heavy and feels great in the hands. The rezound is crazy fast and the screen is really nice. The beats headphones is a nice bonus for free. Really can not go wrong with the Rezound.

^nice. I don't get why people care about phone weight. My D1 is a brick, and i love it. I don't want a super light phone. Thickness doens't bother me either. I want the biggest phone I can get really...i have big hands.

I also have big hands. The first smartphone I had was the original Incredible and it was WAY too small. Later I got the Droid X and it felt perfect. Rezound is no exception. It doesn't feel like the incredible (light and cheap).

i thought reviewers said the pentile display didnt matter because the density was high enough you couldnt see a pentile grid?

The Galaxy Nexus has a very good screen, I personally like it better than the HTC Rezound and Droid Razr. PenTile has nothing to do with it, stop acting like it's the same PenTile on older phones, products improve in time, you know that right? Well honestly, why do you even have more than 40GB of music? That's like 700 hours of music about 10,000 songs I think, and I doubt you'll ever go through all of that in even a few months. Most people who complain about not having space are just either lazy or inefficient at managing space by having a huge amount of excess files that is just wasting space, but to each their own. 5MP has nothing to do with the quality, that's just how big of a picture it can take. The Galaxy Nexus actually has a really good camera, every camera out there on a high end phone nowadays is good. People are just really snobby instead of realistic.

Galaxy S2 is better than the Galaxy Nexus hardware wise, but I'd give Galaxy Nexus the screen, build structure, camera and software. Developers tend to support the Nexus line more since they're vanilla devices of the newest software, and get first dibs on software upgrades for next OS. iPhone 4S only thing that it has is maybe screen, but the screen is so small and the device is as well. The build structure (in my opinion) sucks because of the metal back, but that can easily be fixed with a case. HTC Rezound only really has a faster stock speed for its processor, but you can clock the Galaxy Nexus back to its native clock speed of 1.5 (from what I hear, they clocked it down from 1.5 to 1.2ghz for battery life since you honestly don't even need a processor that fast for a phone). Galaxy Nexus's screen looks better, HTC Rezound looks better but I'll give Galaxy Nexus build structure a tie with it, since they're both good. Rezound also has the beats thing, but that's really just pumped up bass and not much better quality.

Because I like music? I don't even think it's an excessive amount - I'm sure lots of people have that much.

Totally false - the camera is a true way of differentiating phones still. The iPhone 4S camera is miles ahead of the Galaxy Nexus' one.

That's very much personal preference though. And by the way, 3.5" is perfect if you only have one hand free.

You mean glass back? You can't fault the iPhone on build structure - it's a stunning, premium feeling design with a good weight. Most reviews agree.

Honestly as a verizon customer I think their top 3 phones offer good variety for all kinds of people. Im an android fan coming from the iphone 3gs days.

galaxy nexus--only waiting for this to see how I will like the larger screen I have a DX and love 4.3" and might like 4.6 even more biggrin.gif Camera with ZERO lag is a plus, dont like the phone appearance much though, in pictures it looks kind of cheap

htc rezound-- interesting, saw one before they hit the market but they wouldnt let me power it up, had a nice feel but kinda dont care for the stylee

Moto Razr-- I swore I wouldnt get another motorola but DAM ITS A SEXY PHONE!!! I have hated!!!! Motorolas cameras on the droid series, slow snaps and blurry pictures (maybe thats why its called blur UI? lol) but the camera is slightly better, screen is good enough, its fast enough, BUT LOOKS GREAT!!!

I kinda feel that i can go either way with any of these phones but need to wait for the nexus to hit before I can sign away another 2 yrs, I HATE contracts, let me upgrade when I want for the upgrade cost and I will by a few phones a year lol
