Not convinced by the Galaxy Nexus - Page 2

then just get the S2, and wait about a month for someone to come up with a decent ICS rom

or whenever CM9 is released

I personally do not think the Pentile display is a problem. Every review I have read noted that it is virtually un-noticeable, and the super high resolution is really worth the trade off. Personally I use google music, so all my music is in the cloud, so i use like 2GB of space on my phone for serious stuff. (i acually am using like 20GB but most of it is roms and backups and crap, that i am too lazy to delete)

Even The Verge (site notorious for apple bias) rated it extremely positively.

I rarely use my phone as a camera, and when i do, i am taking stupid pictures with my friends, not being artistic.

The main draw of the Nexus. for me at least, is the fact that it is the google dev phone, and it will get official updates before anyone else. To me, this is more valuable than any feature. To me, the Nexus S is a better phone than the S2, just because it gets updates pushed to it from google rather than a third party like samsung or Motorola.

user developed roms could fix this, but in my experience, official support is nicer, especially considering it does't have touchblursensewizflo on top of it..

just my view. For others, obviously the Rezound or RAZR makes more sense.

I don't know why everyone keeps complaining about the camera. I'll take a 5mp camera with an upgraded sensor and zero shutter lag over a phone with an 8mp camera with a cheap sensor.

Because you could have an 8MP with a good sensor? smile.gif

Also, I don't have big hands, so I liked the size of the Incredible. I just wish the screen was a little bigger/they made better use of the dimensions of the phone to have a bigger screen by lowering the soft keys or removing the stupid tracking sensor on it. The back was sort of cheapish though.

Well honestly, why do you even have more than 40GB of music? That's like 700 hours of music about 10,000 songs I think, and I doubt you'll ever go through all of that in even a few months. Most people who complain about not having space are just either lazy or inefficient at managing space by having a huge amount of excess files that is just wasting space, but to each their own. 5MP has nothing to do with the quality, that's just how big of a picture it can take. The Galaxy Nexus actually has a really good camera, every camera out there on a high end phone nowadays is good. People are just really snobby instead of realistic.

Rezound also has the beats thing, but that's really just pumped up bass and not much better quality.
I have 280GB of music. Doesn't fit well on my 8GB SD card. Do I listen to all my music? Yeah, pretty much. I'd say I listen to 80% of it often. Do I need it all on my phone? Nah, not really, but it would be lovely to have the space for it if I could.

"beats thing" doesn't do anything to the SQ. It doesn't even add bass.

As for High End phones having good cameras, lol, no. My HTC Sensation has a horrific camera. All HTC phone's cameras BLOOOOOOOW. They suck. They're awful. That's the one thing I will give to iphones, they take MUCH better pictures than android phones. Android phones just don't care about picture quality. 8MP means crap when the pictures come out terrible. I woul take a 2MP camera that was good quality over a 2000MP camera that takes the quality my Sensation gives me.

The build structure (in my opinion) sucks because of the metal back, but that can easily be fixed with a case.

You mean glass back? You can't fault the iPhone on build structure - it's a stunning, premium feeling design with a good weight. Most reviews agree.
I'm assuming he means the HTC phone. My Sensation has a metal slit on the back and I think it's very cool looking.

If you mean the iphone, sure the iphone's glassy plastic substance looks nice, but it breaks hilariously easy. Ever see the drop test? Iphone SHATTERED like crazy and a comparable Android has a few scratches on the plastic, none on the screen.

Lol, build quality. From what perspective?

You're really coming off as an iphone fanboy.

For anyone on OCN, I can't imagine why that would be a bonus. Almost all of us are rooted and ROM'd. If you're not, why aren't you? Why do you even have an Android phone if you're not going to root and rom it.

Getting an official update is meaningless. Hating HTC Sense is meaningless. Hating MotoBlur is meaningless.

When you lose all that trash when you root and rom and get all updates way before included in your ROM.

For that reason, the Nexus S isn't close to the S2.

Ok, I'm not trying to be a dick here, just curious.

80% of 280GB is like 200GB. How many songs is that exactly? And how long will it take you to play those 80% of songs just once?

About 20,000 songs. Several days. But I listen to artists at a time or genres at a time.

Sometimes I want to listen to Yoko Kanno, so I'll listen to all of her music.

Sometimes I want to listen to Gothic Rock as a whole, so I'll listen to all my Gothic Rock.

Sometimes I want to listen to ethereal female vocals, so I'll listen to a bunch of Enya or Trailer music.

Sometimes I want to listen to movie or game sound tracks, so I'll listen to that.

Basically, most of my music gets listened to in the span of 2 months or so.

The 80GB of music I'm not listening to is music from an artist I don't really care to listen to, but i have it on there mostly because I ripped their entire CD onto my hard drive.

Totally false - the camera is a true way of differentiating phones still. The iPhone 4S camera is miles ahead of the Galaxy Nexus' one.

You mean glass back? You can't fault the iPhone on build structure - it's a stunning, premium feeling design with a good weight. Most reviews agree.

Yeah but all of that one a single mobile device? You can also just use free cloud storages to put that music on. How is it totally false? The Galaxy Nexus has one of the best cameras, especially with its lag free shutter that lets you spam pictures, that gives it a big edge. Well, if you only have one hand free when you're using phone usually that's because you're trying to drive while being on your phone, which you shouldn't be, but to each their own I guess, although you can use any other phone with one hand unless you have extremely tiny hands. How can you not fault the iPhone for build structure? I dislike it since it doesn't provide good grip at all, which is why most go with a more plastic one with a texture on it to protect it and be good grip. It sounds like you're pretty biased towards the iPhone 4S with the way you're making comments, since everything you're saying sounds like 'iPhone 4S is the god tier of smartphones'.

@Simca, What does do the Beats earphones do then? I thought HTC phones come with Beats earphones and preinstalled software on the phone to give it Beats level of quality, could be wrong since I didn't look much into it since I don't even see point in buying a phone for that as an incentive.

You can just use cloud storages and Spotify to have all your music on your phone in a way.

I meant the iPhone 4S, I called it metal by accident because of how it looks and feels, but yeah. It has no grip, and shatters a lot easier than Android phones. My sister has an iPod Touch 4 and the screen got 3 cracks in it from one drop from chest level, and she's not that tall. The power button is also broken from it falling off her bed. I can honestly say everybody I see with a iPod Touch has some type of crack or broken piece. Though I guess a case can fix that, not sure how good it will do though.

It's also worth saying that more recently, TheVerge reviewed the Nexus and he blatantly said it's the best Android phone he's ever used.

Motorola HAS started unlocking them. Verizon is being a little prick about it. All the european RAZRs are unlocked, but Verizon mandated that it be locked up tight on their network.

200GB of music is NOT 20,000 songs...unless you've got FLAC lol. I've got about 40GB uploaded to Google Music, and that's about 10,000 songs. Mostly in 320kb/s.
