^ The 990FXA-GD80 is the highest end MSI board with a heatsinked 8+2 phase................. I doubt there would be problems there.
The current gen low-end (970A-G45) still has problems.

Nobody ever said anything about MSI's higher-end line up. Also, the board you're using is MSI's highest-end model so they obviously can't screw up biggrin.gif

What MSI should do is run some serious quality checks on their lower end line 'coz things are starting to look pretty bad for them (as xd mentioned, the 970A-G45 is failure-prone, not to mention being a current-gen board as well).

I haven't had any problems with my 790gx-g65, but all this talk about poor VRMs is making me think twice about even attempting 3.8ghz

Highly recommend against it as the G65 uses crap quality VRMs. How long have you been running it that way?

that's what I figured. would rather invest on a safer board than wait till the one I have now burns my chip. currently looking at an asrock board which I hear is a pretty good OCer.

just wish bulldozer wasn't so 'eugh', then the new board would've been an even better investment.

What's your budget for the board?
