Actually that's for GF100 (i.e. GTX 480, GTX 470). Maximum operating spec of the GTX 580 and GTX 570 is 98'C before it starts throttling AFAIK. Regardless, anything below 90'C is within reason for a reference GTX 580. Below 70'C is fantastic.

I personally use Unigine Heaven with 4xAA to test OCs. Unstable OCs have passed without AA enabled, but 4xAA weeds them out every time.

Driver voltage set in Afterburner dictates your GPU voltage, not any voltage settings in the motherboard. Crashing out at stock voltages is no good. What does MSI Afterburner read your voltage as?

I have the same card and its a nice unit.

You can test with Heaven or 3DMark 11 (I use both) and keep an eye out for visual artifacts. If you spot any, either lower your clocks or increase the volts a smige.

If it passes those two, play a few round of some heavy GPU game like Crysis etc. Should be good to go after that,

BTW, Ive managed to get mine to 895/1710. I cant remember the volts (Im at work ATM) but it was one notch up from stock. Ive also got a AXP cooler slapped on, so the temps are real low. (@ 56c gaming & 61c folding)

Its a good card - keep trying the OCing thumb.gif

Crashing on stock settings may be a driver issue - which one are you using?

I've passed 3DMark11 and Ungine with my 580 at 990Mhz at 1.2v with a custom bios. Its clearly not the best clocker to need such high volts compared to some in the 580 ocing club. I'm on full water too.

Water is nice : /
My DCII would probably hit 90-95c at that clock/vcore.

Are you using Beta Forceware by any chance?

My temps don't go past 60 at that but i never uses those speeds for gaming, the voltage is too high and i reckon it would just shorten the life of the card. If I game with it oc'd i keep it to about 920 or 940. Hell at 1920x1280 GTX580 will nail any game at highly playable frame rates at stock so i don't stress too much about it.

The high oc is just nice for benching and to know that I can get a performance increase of about 20-25% if need be when new even more taking games come out.

What games are you playing and what drivers are you using? Is the CPU oc'd also?

If its Skyrim or BF3 apparently the latest patches have caused a crash to desktop for lost of people.
First things first. Set the gpu back to stock and do a clean install of the drivers. Then see how you go.

I dont know the voltage msi afterburner reads...im pretty sure i used the latestdriver which is 285.64 whql, not beta. I just installed it after i reformatted my PC. How can i read the voltage from there....i also set all my bios settings to default.,,,please takenote of my mobo and ram, its just h67 with 4 gbof ram dual channel. Maybe its the problem

Reset Afterburner then uninstall, select "no" when prompted to keep settings. Download and install latest MSI Afterburner 2.2.0 Beta 9.

After that try again.

what type of bsod are you experiencing? what does it say when you crash?
maybe idle 2d voltage is to low on your card..

get gpuz and look at what voltages are running on the card.. does that giga card have voltage read points? (use digital multi meter to read smile.gif)
