Black Friday Build

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, it's been years since I've built a PC, but with the PS3 and XBOX360 getting a bit long in the tooth, I wanted to make a gaming rig so I can max out Skyrim.

So here's what I'm looking at:

- i5-2500k which I plan to OC
- Noctua NH-D14
- ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
- MSI N580GTX Lightning Xtreme (I might SLI later, or just wait on Kepler)
- OCZ 120GB Agility 3
- Corsair 16 GB Vengeance Blue Low Profile 1600mhz DDR3
- Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 800W PSU
- Corsair Carbide Series 500R

Am I missing anything? Looking for critiques, thoughts, suggestions. =]

I'll be using my 27" iMac as a display so I need DP on the gfx card, and won't be doing any crazy multi-monitor shenanigans, but I DO want to do ultra settings on games with AA and good fps. I also need optical out for my sound setup, but I think the ASUS mobo has that out of the box?

My budget is flexible, and my goal is to max out games, but all things being equal, I'd prefer to spend less not more. So doubling the cost to get 10% extra performance doesn't really interest me.

Thanks guys!

I would try to find a Corsair Force 3 for the SSD instead of the OCZ. They are approximately the same price and i believe the Corsair is much more reliable. Otherwise I think this build is quite solid. Maybe look into an EVGA GPU instead of MSI for warranty purposes.
Cheers! Hope this helped.

I think 8Gb of memory would be more than enough.
A Corsair h100 would be nice with that case. It's a little bit more than Noctua , but i think is a better choice.
If you plan to SLI , i don't think that power supply is enough. You should go for a good quality 850Watt or higher if you plan to OC
Everything else looks good to me.

I hope my post helped you.

like posts above stated, 8GB ram is more than enough

if u plan on doing SLI, u would want a good 850 watt psu minimum.

i5-2500k OC to 4.2 atm, will increase later to 4.7.
- Noctua NH-D14
- ASUS P8Z68-V PRO

^ i have everything same here. can't go wrong. thumb.gif
