Crappy HDMI cable?

Thread Starter
Can a cheap HDMI cable cause image problems? I was usually have my main monitor connected with a DVI to HDMI cable, but getting a third monitor has forced me to use my card's HDMI port, so I used an HDMI cable I had sitting in a drawer. Now the image is smaller than the actual monitor area and the image is the opposite of sharp, it's soft I guess. The text is almost blurry. The cable is pretty thick, but I got it from my local ISP with a cable box.

I'm about to order a new one on monoprice, but I don't have another to test with and I want to make sure it's not the card's port.

Love the forum re-design by the way, it definitely needed it.

hdmi is all digital, even a cheap cable shouldn't create the problems you describe. problem almost sounds like resolution issue from the video card out.

Since the signal is all 1s and 0s essentially, the cable itself shouldn't matter.

That's what I thought too. But everything says it's outputting at 1080x1920.

Basically what the other said, its digital, it either receives the signal, or it doesnt.

That doesn't have anything to do with whether it is digital or not.

Ok, I understand the whole digital thing. It makes sense.

So what's my problem? Why is a straight HDMI cable giving me a terrible image compared to a DVI-HDMI cable?
Could just be a bad cable, have you tried another HDMI cable?
