I don't think the RAM dividers on this board work out well beyond the my current settings so upping the reference clock would be rather difficult. I might try it but I'll work on getting this stable first. 3.6 isn't bad for an Athlon right? redface.gif

Why am i getting the feeling that the chip itself may be borked? I mean at those speeds the voltage being drawn is insane. My friend has the X2 250 OC'd to 3.95 Ghz with the stock cooler. The voltage he's pulling is 1.45-ish. I just booted up my Phenom @ 3.98 Ghz for your sake and saw that the chip was pulling 1.42v. Also, is your chip based on the C2 or C3 revision? 'Coz the C2 rev chips are voltage- hungry little dudes. Could be a reason behind why you might be hitting a brick wall teaching.gif

My chip claims to be a C3 but the only thing that makes me believe that is because it didn't unlock the L3. Outside of that this thing really hadn't been happy at anything but stock settings. I did manage to run the XMP timings for my ram at stock but I wanted more speed out of the CPU and NB. To be honest I feel like this thing was more a 635 than a 640 with the multiplier problem. Can't wait until Tuesday though...I'll be able to run this thing for the 8hours of P95 and not worry about overheating it. Crossing fingers and hoping it passes.

Thanks for the help so far guys I'll post back after the stress test.

Sucks too since the 1100T was only 169 on newegg. I'm like 69 bucks short.

You've got an Athlon II x4 640. You're lucky you're getting 3.6GHz stable out of it honestly. I usually tend to see those chips top out around 3.5. The very first (native Deneb) Athlon quads, the 620 and 630 did pretty well. They had a tendency to hit 3.75-4.0GHz or so. The C3 Athlon quads really sucked though.

And yes, your board will take a Thuban okay. You obviously want to take it easy on voltages, and get some VRM sinks on it, but it should do okay. Why not get the 960T instead though? Or do you need the 6 cores? You could probably get the 960T higher, since its a 95w chip at stock, and only a quad.

I do transcoding on occasion and the 6 cores really come into play there. I did think about the 960T but unless it goes back down in price I can't justify it. I remember it being the same price as the 955 and then it went up. I'm not 100% but I think in transcoding the x4s weren't noticeably better at the same clocks and I don't think beyond 3.6 is "guaranteed" with them.
