Torn between the FX8150 and i7-2600k - Page 2

Why not consider a x4 AMD or even get a cheap 10xxT for now, considering so many push to 4 or so Ghz, they are all that is needed for now.
Definitely the 2600k. The 2500k is a good option as well but you will be much more suited for the future with 8 threads. If your anything like me and you won't upgrade your CPU for a few years the 2600k will still be awesome in 3 years. I still think my 955 is plenty fast enough and I do a lot of audio/video encoding, PhotoShop processing, VMWare... And I'm sure I probably won't upgrade for another year or two. 2600k and enjoy years of blistering performance.

Just BD's power consumption should be enough to make you stay away.

The 2600k hands down beats out the 8150 and I think I'd still pick up a 2500k over the 8150 now. But honestly any of them are pure overkill or any game out now and probably for atleast another couple years. Because console gaming as over taken pc gaming by such a large margin nothing gaming wise is going to out pace your CPU. But if you wanna go future proof then get the 2600k.

I would take a 2500K or 2600K over the FX-8150, without question. 2600K if you'll have a use for HT down the road...but I would avoid AMD like the plague at the moment. They are literally shooting themselves in the foot.

Go to Microcenter and pick up a 2500k for $150.

Conflict resolved.

If you are set on the 1155 socket, why not get an i3 with hyperthreading? i3-2100 with HT is running $110 at NE. $110 vs a $330 2600k.

You can't overclock the i3, and if the OP us going multi gpu he's going to need all the GHz he can get.

I don't know of any games that use HT, games that are HT "aware" are aware of the fact that those cores shouldn't be used.
