Playing FPS games on PS3... Not the best experience

So I picked up a PS3 yesterday after waiting from 10 PM to 1:30 AM in a Black Friday line, and I picked up BC2 with it as well since it was only $10. Anyway, I have both an Xbox 360 and a PS3 so I have experience playing FPS games on both now. Playing FPS games on the PS3 just doesn't seem quite right to me. Especially in BC2 where R1 and L1 were used for aim/shoot. The control sticks also stuck out completely instead of having the small circular indents like on the Xbox controller so it was very uncomfortable. Also, the controller. just feels too small after using the Xbox 360 controller for so long (I haven't used my PS2 in a long time so I forgot how it feels).

I don't know about you guys, but it just feels a lot more natural playing FPS games on the Xbox 360. I think from now on I will use my Xbox 360 for FPS games and my PS3 for RPG's.

Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me?

Same, can't stand that excuse of a controller lol. Xbox 360 controller wins hands down.

The 360 controller is vastly superior, ergonomics and button layout-wise to the PS3. Both of course, both are abysmal when it comes to precision aiming.

I think this mostly depends on what you're used to. For instance, the other day I was playing Forza 4 (all the assists off) at a friend of mine's place with the 360 controller and while it felt awkward for about a lap (I own a PS3 and no 360 so I'm quite used to the PS3 controller), after that it felt like like I've never been playing anything else. I can imagine shoorts being somewhat more difficult though since they require you to use both analog sticks.

For me Controller > KB&M

I actually prefer the PS3 controller over the Xbox one. I can't stand using RT and LT to shoot. I think it's dumb because realistically you have to use your middle finger to shoot. The convexity of the joysticks is actually a lot more precise IMO, especially once you get used to it.

It's all my opinion though.

I don't think you spent much time with the KB&M, because it beats a controller for anyone.
I have ~37% accuracy on my COD stats with my controller on Xbox. I get like 20% accuracy on my PC with COD

Edit: and 15% on PS3 LOL

I have a few days played on PC ad over 200 days on Xbox lol

This.

I bought a PS3 controller to play some games with (of course not FPS games) and it feels just fine. The Xbox controller feels awkward now.

It's all about being used to it.

I feel the opposite. I much prefer the feel and button layout of the PS3 controller over the 360 controller. It seems like the 360 controller was only designed with shooters in mind - which it works well for. However it feels clunky for 3rd person action games, RPGs, driving games, racing games, and basically any genre that's not an FPS. The PS3 controller, for me, suits a wider variety of games.

That explains your avatar...

Anyway, the shape, triggers and the analog sticks on the XBox 360 controllers are better, though the layout and the buttons them selves are better on the PS3 controller. All in all it's about user preferences...

How it is the same lol...do you mean the D-Pad buttons?

When I got my PS3 I tried the Killzone demo's and it just felt odd with that controller.

agreed. worst thing about the ps3 is the controller. the R2/L2 buttons just don't have enough resistance and are too flimsy. plus they curve outwards making your fingers slip too much. the sticks are equally bad. without the groove for your thumbs, making small adjustments becomes very difficult especially in FPS games.

Once you are used to a controller, you say the other one is bad.

thats so fanboy-ish, once someone is used to a controller you cant change their stubborn minds.

Why are you on these forums?

jks XD

Seriously OP, I have every console right now and none of them are as good as the K&M. BUT once someone is used to a controller they will prefer it over the other. e.g I grew up with playstation's my whole life, and never touched an xbox, until the 360 came out. Then when I started to play that the controller was fine after a while but nothing felt the same as a ps3 controller even though I had/have no problem with the xbox controller, trust me. My mate grew up with xbox and he says ps3 is ****, but in terms of controllers, it is preference, comfortability and fun factor.

I have no friends on ps3 anymore they all got xbox's. So guess what? ps3 became boring and I switched to playing xbox most of the time and then when I went back to ps3 the controller felt horrible to me.

Anyway TL;DR? It takes time to warm up to controllers as different people prefer different things.

You don't use R2/L2 to fire and aim in ps3. its R1/L1. hence why its like that because if they were the same why bother making different controllers/consoles?

no flame wars starting here.

Where do you see me saying they're the same? All buttons on the PS3 controller. The D-pad thing on the XBox 360 controller makes it easy to touch a different button (left and up instead of only up, for example), and that left anaolg stick on the XBox 360 controller, wt*? I guess XBox 360 players had different left hands... That said, what wit the rounded AXYB buttons? Easy to slip off from... And the X-home button, or whatever it's called tends to get stuck some times. Other than that, good controller.
