I certainly have my own tastes in audio equipment (Vivid Speakers with MSB or VTL front end!!) but I've listened to quite a few and I'm trying to share my opinions while giving recommendations for the equipment I have laid eyes, ears, and hands on. My subjective opinion is based on my experience, although it is still very limited. As I said, I cannot recommend the B&W diamond series because of my first hand experience with them, but my opinion was shared by that of myslef, Irishdunn, and his father who sold the B&Ws instantly when we had the Kudos C30 and Harbeth Monitor 40.1s all together. I think the biggest factor was the room he is in and its arrangement of furniture. The Monitor 40.1 IMO is the better speaker, but it did not perform well in the constraints of his room. Compared the the B&W 803d, however, there was no comparison. Both the Monitor 40.1 and Kudos C30 blew it away.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with sharing opinions. I just think that some people tend to present them as facts (or others take them as such, which is not necessarily the opinion giver's fault).

What I would like to see more of are objective measurements/graphs/comparisons/etc.

When looking at video cards, do people just accept when somebody says "hey, this gpu runs so much faster than xxxx gpu?"

No. You would want to see benchmarks/fps/numbers, presumably along with wattage numbers and noise levels.

You bring a good point but the problem with objective measurements in audiophile land is that there are many aspects which currently we do not have the means to measure .Things like transparency, warmth, air, imaging, and sound staging cannot be measured at this point in time. We can only rely on frequency, noise, and phase graphs that may hint at certain aspects but not get the whole picture. Now lets go back to what we can measure. Frequency, noise, and phase.

These things alone will not tell how a certain piece of equipment sounds. It may measure great but sound horrible, or just the opposite. Case in point: Audio Note. Their dacs may quite possibly have the worst measurements ever to see the light of day. Yet many people, including myself, find that they sound great despite their terrible measurements. So you see, It's not as easy as it is with computers where we have effective means of and far fewer variables in measuring performance of components..

I hope that one day my budget will allow for a purchase of such esteem, but for now, I'm seriously enjoying reading this thread. thumb.gif
