Jump from 8GB to 16 worth it?

Thread Starter
So I just bought some of this RAM (also getting a board that supports it). Just 1 set. And I was wondering is it worth another 30 dollars to make the jump to 16GB in terms of speed? It's not gonna be over clocked so that's not a concern. The most thats gonna be done is gaming no photoshop and etc.

If you're just gaming, 8GB is more than enough unless you plan on playing multiple games at the same time wink.gif

No.

On top of that you might have trouble getting all 4 ram to work.
(assuming you're getting g.skill ram)

According to the manufacturer responses, they need to test them in sets of 4 for stability.

I think the cost is very very small, however so are the benefits. I think the same thing, but really, all I want to do it for it to fill my RAM slots.

For gaming? No way, lol.

For encoding, video editing or some kind of CPU intensive application? Yeah, after about 12gb though, I don't notice a difference, though.

I've personally never passed 8GB of RAM use, even with tons of programs open.

Unless you explicitly use programs that need RAM, like video editing or rendering, you'll probably never get any use out of your $30 investment.
