[Official] Silverstone FT03 & FT03 Mini Owners Club - Page 248

Hi Everyone,

I'm thinking of using the FT03-Mini for a new Hackintosh build and would love some advice on the best possible cooling options.

Here are some of the components I plan on using:

CPU: i7-4790K running at 4ghz (might overclock it in the future)
GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SC - Blower Style
RAM: 16gb Crucial Ballistix Tactical
PSU: Silverstone 600w Plus Gold
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250gb

As far as cooling the CPU, it seems like using a water cooler rad right above the bottom case fan is the best setup. I am a little bit concerned about cooling the components in this case since I live in Florida.

My questions are:

1) Which CPU Water Cooler will be best for this case while sufficiently cooling the i7-4790K running at 4ghz? Corsair H60?
2) Should I also use a fan above the rad in a Push/Pull configuration? Does that mess up the airflow from the bottom air penetrator fan to the rest of the case?
3) Should I just use a thick water cooler rad without a pull fan above it?
4) Should I replace the case air penetrator fan with something better?
5) Any particular brands/models for the cooler/fans and how to best configure it?
6) Will the GPU I'm planning to use fit in this case and will it get sufficient cooling with a CPU Water Cooling Rad (and maybe fan) above the bottom case fan?

Hello again.

AS I wrote in post #2449 I'm trying to get some problems away for my ft03b-mini case.
Right now I'm done with the thought getting my ATX PSU in the case. So I need a new one. Chieftec SFX-500GD-C or Silverstone SX 500-LG.

What are the better preferences? I like the slightly better efficiency of the Chieftec. It would be a little bit cheaper too. On the other hand the Silverstone gets 3 years warranty, under 300 W (?) no fan noise and shorter cables (plus the possibility for shorter ones by Silverstone).

Then there's cooling the CPU. Cooler Master Seidon 120V Rev.2 or Enermax Liqmax 120SS? According to some reviews those two and the Corsair H60 seem to have similar cooling performances. Noisy pumps and so on.
May be an air cooler could be an alternative? The Raijintek Pallas is quite good. I would like to test them all, but this won't do it. Any clues which to take?

Any ATX power supply will require case modification. If you look in the image gallery for this thread it has been done.

As for cooling with so little space coolers may be fun to find. Many do use all in ones because the space for the rad is provided at the bottom of the case. A low profile air cooler can work on a system as long as the cpu is not too hot.

The FT03 mini is nearly the same as an SG05 on its front end.

As you can see you have very little room for a cooler even with the small SFX power supply installed. A blower video card is recommended for this case as well because it has no side vents like the SG05.

No. You misunderstand. I already tried. It might fit with some modifications but then there are too many cables. It's not worth the effort. So it's either the Silverstone or Chieftec, but I might prefer the first one as a longer warranty should be argument enough.

It's just the cooling I'm not sure yet.
It's clear water cooler make sense. Before I found out about the Rajintek Pallas I wouldn't have thought about an air cooler. But it seems this one works great even with hot CPUs. I might even supply the PSU with extra (warm) air.
The lamellae from the Pallas itself would be directed down-upwards so air from the penetrator might even have an extra cooling effect.

Or I'm ordering both (Pallas and Seidon) just for the hell of it. xD

Hey guys, need a favor. I took my case apart to mod it and sent it out for powdercoating. Now, I cannot for the life of me remember which screws are used to put the power cable bracket back.

This piece on the right.

I tried M3 and 6-32 and neither screw in. There's a total of 3 screws. If any of you guys can help me out, be greatly appreciated!

How should I connect the fans in push/pull (FT03-Mini)? Both to CPU fan header, or one to chassis fan header - or ...??

Normally it would be best to use a splitter so you can connect them to a single fan header on the mobo, and then you can control them easily, however given the they won't be the same kind of fan and not even the same size I'd go with separate headers on the mobo and then optimize it. Play around with the settings and see what is the best mix of temps on the CPU and GPU vs noise.

Just received case and psu. Did I miss something? I can't see an adapter for the optical drive power. So they make a case for slim optical drives, but doesn't care to include an adapter??

That is true. They used to include adapters with older cases that took IDE ODDs, but do not seem to have adapters on these cases.

I think the big reason is many users choose to not go the optical drive route. I have always just picked up the adapters with my drives(I never actually expected the case to have one).

My workstation build is finally done smile.gif The FT03 certainly has its quirks but it's well worth the effort, it's a fantastic case. Here are my parts:

CPU: i7 6700k
RAM: 16GB DDR4 2400
Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VIII Gene
Cooler: beQuiet! Dark Rock 3
PSU: EVGA Supernova 550W G2 80 Plus Gold Full Modular
Video card: ASUS GTX 970 Strix 4GB
Storage 1: Samsung M.2 950 Pro 256GB
Storage 2: Samsung 850 Evo 500GB
Storage 3: WD Green 2TB
Case fans: 2 x beQuiet! Silent Wings 2 120mm
Other peripherals: Corsair K70 keyboard, 2 x Dell 2405FPW 24" monitors, Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra speakers (best speakers ever!), Wacom Intuos Pro Medium tablet, Evoluent VerticalMouse 4

At 23C ambient, the CPU idles at 29C and the GPU at 50C. During my day at work modeling and texturing 3D models, the video card fans never start up. This means the PC is silent, and I mean silent. Using the UEFI fan controls on the ASUS motherboard it's easy to set a custom silent curve - and I don't need to install the awful AI Suite software, unlike on my V Gene. I just found out that my monitors emit a very slight electrical whine because my system is silent smile.gif

All in all a very capable machine. This is my first experience using mostly premium parts and IMO the premium was worth it.

Please don't mind the white balance on the photos...
