Soon this debate will hopefully die. We are at the peak of the solar cycle. if the temp continues to go up then green house gasses are going to be the next suspect. Though the solar activity cycle is only 12 years and the temps have been rising noticeably since the 1950's...so people will probably still not care.
I think that is the real problem. It isn't a right or wrong thing...not political or economic...people just don't care. I have to admit I am sympathetic with that mentality. The planet is getting warmer and the weather is starting to get messed up a bit. Tough. Evolve with it or go extinct. If some life forms here on earth can't adapt to it...oh well, go blame Darwin.
However, if the planet getting warmer is going to prevent the human race from prospering or make my great grandchildren to be forced to live in domes or under ground...then we need to do something about it...NOW. I am tired of the evidence being gathered on if global warming exists...enough has been found to make it past theory. Tell me what kind of consequences we are looking at here. I for one would love it if all we were really looking at was a temp increase...I like it warm, and yes, I realize I am in Minnesota and I am not happy about it. I could careless if there are a few animals that my descendants won't be able to see in a zoo as long as they can live a normal life similar to mine.
Though there is still the point that it is estimated that the Earth only has about another 100 years of oil left at our current rate of consumption. Coal is still in good supply for much longer, but if we have to develop technologies that don't use oil I am betting that coal will go by the wayside for the most part as well.Edited by Vagrant Storm - 11/29/11 at 9:10am
