i5 2500k & z68 Mobo or wait? Great deal

I realize this question has been asked multiple times and will most likely be asked again but i have a very specific situation. I am presented with the opportunity to get an i5 2500k with a z68 Mobo for $250, which is from what i have heard a steal. I can live with my current build for now and was hoping to upgrade to a 7950 and possibly an IB cpu. The point is, would i be able to potentially sell the i5 and the motherboard for
that much or a little less if i decide i would really want to upgrade? (considering the processor alone is $2xx and the mobo 150 at the moment.) I really would appreciate any help. Even if i didn't specifically ask for it any advice would be gladly accepted.

Fill out your specs. If you have a Pentium 4 then hell yes, go for it, but not if you have an i7 9xx.

Okay i have added my rig to my sig. If anything i am wondering if i will be able to get $250 if i decide to sell the components in the near future. (Assuming they are in sell-able condition.)

OP: i bought an i5 2500k + GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 about 2 weeks ago...held onto them for a while.....and decided to return them a few days ago...

The reason? I decided I can wait...I just had the upgrade bug...I HATE buyer's remorse...and a lot of new GPUs/CPUs coming out in March/April....so i figure I can wait...im not dying for an upgrade right now....

However, I DID upgrade stuff I knew I would buy even in April...new speakers, monitors, soundcard, etc. I knew nothing new or better would come out by then...so i bought that hardware now. I also HAD to get a new gfx card (gtx 570)...BF3 was pwning me...but i will try to sell it in April and get one of the newer ones then.

As for reselling the mobo and i5...personally...i hate trying to sell stuff....im not on ebay..and craigslist is a crap-shoot....i rather not deal with trying to sell stuff..but that's me. I rather save myself the headache and time of trying to find a buyer and trying to negotiable a price...I like to keep things simple....only buy stuff i need and want for the long haul...not stuff i will keep for just a few months to sell away because i was impatient....

If you need to upgrade now for whatever reason...do it. If not, stop thinking about it and come back in March/April. It's not THHHATTTT far away. =)

FYI - I'm waiting for IB also, if its def. better..than yay! if it's disappointing..i can always get the i5 2500k then...it should still be at a good price. I have no reason to buy a new cpu/mobo now...so i can wait.

Well the price is real nice, I wonder if the processor has been overclocked and if so, what kinda voltage did it get? Since you mention ivy bridge... I'd go with a z68 gen 3 board for that purpose.

But htm, in all honesty, the price for this combo at microcenter is about right not counting tax for new products. I'd shop there to see if you could do the same thing for a gen 3 with a 2500k

Sell your current stuff, buy the upgrade, sell the upgrade, buy new stuff....

Yeah from a 1st gen Phenom it's worth it. Ivy Bridge is just a die shrink so you wont be missing out on much by upgrading to sandy.

I'm not sure how much 2500Ks go for on the OCN marketplace but you really wont need to upgrade before Broadwell.

That is actually where I intend to make this purchase. Microcenter. It will be more with tax. And thanks I might get the gen3 board instead = /. That being said will it support the new Southern island GPU's. And will a fairly old Rosewill PSU 750w be able to handle the i5 at stock speeds?
(sorry in advanced for any errors in spelling or grammar, this was posted via a mobile phone) and thanks a lot for the constructive responses. Didnt expect much help so soon. )

750 would be fine, I was running 650 with 2x nvidia 560ti and my 2500 k overclocked fine. I was a bit worried but your 750 should do just fine

In my opinion, I would say, go ahead with the upgrade. As someone has already pointed, you're not going to miss all that much with a 2500k compared to IB. Yes it'll use less power and might overclock higher but for normal usage, i don't think you're going to overclock it @ 5GHz 24/7 unless you're running benchmarks all day long.

Also, do take note that this is their first batch from a completely new architecture. Judging from history, mishaps are going to happen. If they do, then you're going to end up waiting far longer. If you need the upgrade now, go ahead.
