i knew nothing of overclocking anything or modding when i first started this crazy journey. I wanted my own gaming pc. and obviously from the parts list...was on a budget. but the excitement of having something i built myself quickly wore off when i started to learn off all the amazing things that can be done with a computer.
So i went out and purchased i newer 990 board from Gigabyte and decided that i wanted a water cooled pc. instead of going straight for the custom loop (that i knew nothing about building) I decided to go with the rather cheap H70 by CORSAIR. i also picked up a new EVGA GTX460 that was light years ahead of my little evga 9800gtx
I was so pleased with what i had done with the little bit i had learned so far. I felt i had a solid setup that obviously was not "top o' the line" but was working great for the games and programs i was using it for. But just like anything that can be fiddled with and "tuned up" i wasnt happy for long..
First big mod:
through some research i found that a small group of crazies had made modifications to the Corsair kits to add a reservoir to help drop temps. It didn't sound all that difficult so i gave it a try....and what do ya know IT WORKED (and really well mind you lol)
XSPC 250mm aluminium reservoir FTW !!
Ok, so it wasnt pretty..i know.but the whole "that was done with home depot parts" kinda appealed to me (like a 500hp civic that looks like a rust pile).
so now i had to figure out how it was going to all fit in my Antec Three Hundred case......
ok that wasn't to hard. With some textured paint, a sheet of acrylic and some decent enough bolts to hold it all together i think i pulled off a decent (and different) looking Rig that again pleased me.
and then...
Diablo...
*edit* add photos later..
shortly after its completion the system took a hit and mobo sadly...passed away
so while i wait for the RMA, I got some new toys
*pictures!!*
originally the loop was not amazing looking by any means but after some carefull planning and studying i got it reworked and better
Ok. Its been 48 hrs now since i finished my H60 mod and i have to say im Ecstatic with the results. With the right amount of research and i dare say lady luck on my side i have achieved what a i wanted. the end result is withing sight. i am going to be finishing my side panel today and will add a finalized pic of it in all its home made glory.
rough time with the paint but it came out solid. the spots that need touch-up are thankfully hidden and will be dealt with when i throw my 2x 480s in when i get my water blocks for them.
very pleased with the results will share with you as soon as i get pictures uploaded.
wow i know its been awhile since ive posted on here, new babies tend to take up ALOT of time haha. so to anyone thats still interested in my case mod ill be posting a update video to show everyone whats up with the rig.
cool mod, do you know the fitting sizes on the h60? i'm looking into water cooling and wondering if i could take mine apart for the cpu plate and rad and add it too my gpu loop(when i get it)
1/4 inch inner diameter on the fittings for both the radiator and pump/block. It is very easily doable. i will be making a video this weekend of me tearing down and modding the antec version of the h50. I will make a thread on here for it, stay tuned lol
- power supply has been upgraded to an 850 to accommodate the extra 460 i added.
-Added a 60gb Patriot Pyro SSD and 1 more 500gb sata
-using 16gb of Kingston hyper X ram (think i said crucial in the video)
yep yep...
another quick walk around. TURN DOWN SOUND FIRST..running a 1.8amp Senseflo fan and it sounds like a frikking jet is landing in my living room LOL
So i just got home from MicroCenter over in Brentwood, MO. Stopped in and picked up 2 Corsair H70s. i will be modding them onto my GTX460s this weekend. starting tonight with making the tutorial on how easy it is to mod the lines in the prebuilt systems.
yep its like a 30 min drive for me lol but always worth the trip. Billy over in the Build it Yourself section is my man!
So, as to my research so far...no one has done this yet,and some say its not possible...Im calling bluff on this! i have found an article that im using for reference and tweaking his design a bit to fit a GTX460 referenced board. I will be going to machine shop tomorrow for some help with the cutting of a new bracket that will be epoxy welded to the modified factory bracket. if all goes well i should have an H70 on the card tomorrow night.
so for now...all ive achieved tonight is putting my zulman vga ram heatsinks on and chopping up the stock cooler to allow the EVGA case to go back on the card after modding.
this is could be Epic-Awesome OR epic-failure.
stay tuned for results tomorrow and wish me luck!!
just got home from work. stopped by at the local machine shop and gave them one of the brackets from the H70 kit and the dimensions for everything. if they get it figured out i will be ordering a handful of them for anyone interested. in the mean time tho... I went to the hardware shop and found the tiny bolts washers and nuts i need for the mod. also i picked up a 0.25in acrylic to see what i can come up with tonight.
acrylic is stenciled and ready for my dremmel. we will see you guys in a bit with some pics or some sad faces...either way should be interesting!!
Here it is... after breaking about half the 50.00 worth of acrylic working out all the kinks i got myself an H70 Liquid cooled GTX460....And dare i say maybe the first of its kinds!!
now its time to take apart the other 460 and make another one tomorrow, then tear down the running system and add the pumps to it and VIOLA!! so ill have an h60 cooled cpu and dual 460s each with an h70 and two rads and my 250mm rez all on one loop.
going to be having some nice brackets made next week but these will do for now... IM SUPER STOKED!

I plan to eventually mod my h60 and kuhler 620 to work with a few massive rads. I assume with two pump blocks you have a pretty insane flow rate?

ok ok not the first... im a month to slow... bawls...oh well its still great to be doing this mod and the only thing that put me over the cost of said nice mount was having to add to my hole saw collection (damn those things arent cheap) but thats a one time investment that will help with enough mod'ing to pay themselves off. i will have a more eye appealing mount tomorrow which will also hold a 60mm green led fan to blows down on me vrm heatsinks (courtesy of EVGA) and i have THREE block/pumps. system is not together yet but will let you know how she blows...yar!
