How to move Win7 to SSD

Id like to jump on an SSD in possibly a few hours. But I have one problem.

My current HDD came from a pre build with Win7 already on it.
I no longer have the WIN7 disk..

So how in gods name would I get my current windows onto an SSD? I dont even know if I have the activation code anymore.

Before you can even copy your system partition to a SSD, you will need to make that system partition the same size as the SSD. Get rid of all your files onto a spare drive or something and once you are under 120GB, then you can use a free disk cloning program to do it. There are several out there. Conversely you could shrink your default partition and create another one on the 1TB drive and move your files to the new partition before cloning.

I have the "Product ID" in my system properties. The same thing as the key I assume? Well It has "OEM" in it, not sure if it being an OEM version will make a difference or not.

In order to reinstall windows, you can simply download the installation .iso directly from Microsoft, however, you MUST HAVE YOUR PRODUCT KEY in order to properly activate it. These are the direct download links to the Digital River content distribution site. (As in 100% legit, straight from MS install .iso files - but again, no product key is included, so you can't use them for more than 30 days without a valid key.) Hope this helps!

If you have a pre-built, you will have a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker on the side or back of the case with your windows key on it.

You can also use a program to get your key (I use Belarc Advisor, but there are others).

Yeah, that's my bad. It showed up on the right side of the screen as a related activity thread or something for Sean's Win 7 Installation & Optimization guide and I made the mistake of assuming that what was showing up there would be recent activity. I replied without actually looking at the darn dates! Boo!
