Case -- FD Arc Midi
Monitor -- ASUS VE248H
CPU -- i7 2500k,
RAM -- Corsair Vengeance 2 x 4gb 1600Mhz
GPU -- Holding out for 7xxx series
HDD -- Crucial M4 SSD 128gb
MOBO -- Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen 3
SOUND CARD -- Asus Xonar DX
5.1 SPEAKERS -- on hold
PSU -- Corsair AX750
COOLER --Corsair Hydro H100

Managed to find a H100 for the same price as a noctua nh-D14 so I got that instead, too bad the asus monitors were sold out though. now to wait for 7xxx series gpu to come out and i'll be happy =)

Pictures as promised =)

Do you think this accidental smudge of the thermal paste would affect anything? I sorta dropped the h100 just as it touched

Case: is preference. I love the Coolermaster HAF series.
Monitors: i have no preference
Cpu: Excellent choice sir. wink.gif
Ram: 8Gb of corsair vengeance is perfect. any more than that is just bragging rights. how fast? I recomend at least 1600
Gpu: I love AMD cards so I'd say go for the 6970, but the 580 I think is a better single card.
Mobo: I'd go with an Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen 3.
Sound card: I like Creatives line of sound cards.
Speakers: Logitech Z506 are decent for price.
Psu: I recommend a Corsair Hx750 or Hx850 if you want the extra headroom to expand.
Cooler: Depends what you plan to do with the computer. A corsair H60 wouldn't be a bad Idea.

This is just my take on it. I don't have an opinion on SSD since i've never personally had one or used one.

any particular reason why you recommend that mobo?

It has th lastest chipset with all the bells and whistles. It has expandability for crossfire. It is a good motherboard for price/performance. You could go with the ROG series mobo and if you do plan on getting ball deep in overclocking then I say go for it. Imo I want to buy a i72600k and the P8Z68-V Pro/Gen 3 is what I would buy.

hi,

as far as case, mobo, sound cards go,there are better people than me here to advice.so wait for them.

but if budget is not an issue,i suggest u look at CASE LABS for your computer case.they are quite good.

about GPU,its a personal choice,if u can wait until jan-feb(the release may be early or late.no1 knows 4 sure) that would be a personal call.but if the rumors are true, the 7xxx is going to be kick ass!also AMD or ATI is a personal call.

HDD:i assume your laptop hdd is a 2.5'' 5200rpm like most laptops have.i would suggest you go far a 7200rpm or a 10000rpm HDD,would be way faster than your laptop hdd.

PSU:check out guides by Phaedrus2129 .they will help u more than almost every1 here put together :)

COOLER:depends on how much u intend to overclock.also how much clearance your mobo provides as many air coolers interfere with taller ram modules(but there are ways around it.)for air cooling go here.many successfully water cool on their first rigs.u can do it if you want to do it :) theres always a first time for everything!

the corsair Hydro series is not bad either.hassel free colsed loop water cooling and it looks neat!but not as good as a custom water loop with koolance heatsinks and pumps!

hopefully this was helpful :)

EDIT: LOL,while i was typing this, andstraus beat me to it!dyam!

Case - FD ARC MIDI
Monitor - Dell , NEC they have some thin bezels monitors. But i am sure other brands to
CPU - For gaming and music a 2500K will be enough. What type of programing are you doing. You could save a few $ going for a 2500k
Ram - 8Gb at 1600Mhz it is enough . Me personally i like GSkill
HDD - Try to look for a deal for OCZ , Corsair SSD's. They a little bit more cheaper than Crucial.
Mobo - What Andstraus posted ( Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen 3. )
Sound Card - Creative or Asus
5.1 Speakers - Logitech or Creative
PSU - 750Watt PSU : Corsair HX , Corsair AX , Seasonic
Cooler - Corsair H100

I'll get the Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen 3 then, updated OP with new choices.

the FD Arc Midi looks nice but its like 10kg crazy heavy on its own, I'd prefer something lighter

That Lian_li looks nice. I like FD because it's wider , black interior finish , grommets on mobo tray , you can fit a 240 rad inside without modding.

CPU - i5 2500k
GPU - GTX 580
Mobo - P8Z68-V Pro GEN3
Cooling - NH-D14 or SilverArrow

I choose the P8Z68-V Pro GEN3 because its built around the latest technology, but mainly because it supports PCI-E 3.0 and is ready for Ivy Bridge processors making it future proof. As for your processor you don't need the 2600k if you don't compile code all the time, if you compile code less then 1 time per day then your wasting your money on the 2600k. Take the extra $100 you save, forget the 6970 and put it on a GTX 580. Its a win/win situation without blowing a lot of extra money. As for cooling it doesn't really matter which way you go, one won't be better then the other because higher ambient temps ultimately mean higher temps all around regardless of cooling solution. I would go with the NH-D14 or the SilverArrow, remove all the chances for leeks and pump failures etc. The fact is the NH-D14 and SilverArrow are a better buy then any cooling loop on the market simply because of longevity. The only thing that could possibly fail is a fan, and for the NH-D14 they manufacture replacements. From the looks of it your not into the whole side window and flashy LED fan stuff, with an enclosed case nobodys going to ever see how ugly the huge heatsinks are, so in my opinion its the better deal. People mostly go for the H80/H100 series of cooling not because its ultimately better, but only because they don't like having a massive heatsink filling up their side window.

Here's a photo to give you an idea of how massive these cooling units really are.

I actually do compile code, don't know how much difference between the 2600k and 2500k has in compile time though.

And god that huge heatsink and fan is one ugly piece of crap. Yes although both are the same, those massive fans are gonna be a chore to clean so the hydros are probbly a better pick still

I'm thinking whether I should get 6950s X 2 or just stick with single a single 6970. will the 6950's be excessive on a 1080p screen?
Do they still flash up to 6970?
