Gigabyte's Windforce 3X in CrossFire

Thread Starter
Alrighty guys, I'm faced with a problem I created for myself.

I've got the Gigabyte Windforce 3X 6870. The cooler is great for me so far, silent, good looking, and keeps the card cool. But I need a little more, time to CrossFire.

The problem now occurs. The cooler's design throws hot air upward into the top card as seen in the video below. I'd however like to avoid mixing cards at all cost (for looks). So do you guys think I can get away with two of these in crossfire seeing as I have the Haf X?

If you don't want to get the reference design 6870 which dumps hot air outside the case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103196

You can but with a lot fans to dump the hot air faster than the fresh air intake (negative pressure).

You'll be fine, you might see temps increase a bit on the top card, but the cooler on those cards is more than beefy enough to handle the extra heat.

The windforce 3X design doesnt throw it to the top card, its to the side of the cards.

You will be completely fine with them in a HAF X it has ample airflow for any kind of setup you need, I know because i have one wink.gif

The difference in temperatures between the top and bottom cards wont be huge because the windforce coolers are great.

Especially with your motherboard, there is a lot of space between the first and second card so you dont have to worry.
