Ive never been too big a fan of Ubisoft but they have put out some solid games despite their lack of respect for the PC gaming community. I was recently reading and article where they were talking about bringing the "I am Alive" title over to PC and went on to talk about Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. I dont know who here saw the trailer when they release it but I was excited to eventually get to play this on PC. Then I read this... "When we started Ghost Recon Online we were thinking about Ghost Recon: Future Solider; having something ported in the classical way without any deep development, because we know that 95 per cent of our consumers will pirate the game," Ghost Recon Online senior producer explained to PC Gamer.

I just about wanted to reach through my monitor and slap them in the face, yet another example of Ubisoft hurting the player who will actually PAY to play their games (not even mentioning DRM)...

Now I know piracy is a problem with PC games but other developers have taken quite a different stance on it. Team Meat, developers of Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac say, "If the game gets pirated heavily, if it's a good game that people really like, they're going to either buy it eventually or they're going to tell other people about it. Either way it's just going to come back to a sale." and goes on to further comment "They spend so much money trying to prevent it but they are wasting everyone's time. They are damaging their own businesses."

So just wondering everyones thoughts on the matter.

I'll never pirate anything, i always support the producer by buying their games so that in the future i know i've helped them make the decision to keep making games for PC.

Its stupid how Ubisoft point the finger at PC gamer's about piracy when there a million's of people with Flashed/Hacked Xbox/Ps3's out there

I buy many of my games of steam because at some point they will put all games at amazing price's

I definitely agree tho if people like the game they will buy it .

I think there should be more demo's then people could try before they buy there use be a demo for every game but very few are realised these days.

I believe the biggest reason for piracy is the price of games at launch. Not everyone can afford the $60 launch price they release games at these days, I think if they dropped to $35~40 they would see more sells. I myself have not paid for full retail price for a game in 5 years, most I've paid is $30.
As for ubisoft I stopped supporting them after what they did with Far Cry 2 and since they enforced always on DRM, that was the last nail in the coffin for me.

People who think piracy is a good thing don't get it. How they think people will pay for a game when they can get it for free is beyond me. How many people do you know that, given a choice between paying 60 bucks or getting it free, will choose to shell out 60 bucks? Personally, I don't know anyone like that, and if someone offered me a game for free there's no way I'd actually buy it. Piracy has always been around and will always be around, there's no getting rid of it. I think people that pirate anything are pathetic little schmuks, but just because I think that doesn't mean it's going to stop. People hate on Ubisoft and other companies for DRM, but I can totally see their perspective. They might not go about it the right way, but who wants to devote tens of thousands of man-hours developing a product only to see it pirated by a bunch of people?

Tbh, I see it a lot like other crime, such as murder or robbery or drunk driving. True, countries spend a lot of money trying to either educate or prevent crimes from occuring, even though they know crimes will still be committed. But the argument of "they spend so much money trying to prevent it but they are wasting everyone's time" to me is saying the same thing as "well, we spend a lot of money paying for law enforcement, but since rapes and murder still occur there's not point in having them because they're not preventing all the crimes". I mean, that pseudo-logic makes you sound like an idiot in my eyes, just because you can't prevent piracy doesn't mean you shouldn't try to curb it. Now, for them to say 95% of the people that play the game will pirate it, that's a little over the top, fairly certain if 95% of the people that played their titles pirated the title, they wouldn't be around anymore lol. But they have a point, piracy can certainly pose a major problem, I have no problem with them trying to do something about it. But that's just me, I'm sure some will hate on me, such is life smile.gif

agreed, also in my eyes, people who buy a game and then sell it on kijiji or craiglist is taking from the developers as well, its not only in the PC gaming world that this happens.

Its not hard to sell a 60$ game to pc users.

Design a game for the pc first and the console second
Incorperate the good things and improve from prior iterations of the game series
Listen to your constructive community
Create software that puts a hurt on our systems in a good way.
Have a well made mulitplayer with many game types
Have mod tools avaliable for unranked and dlc for ranked multiplayer gameplay

Its not hard. Console ports arent even woth 10$ to me. Its a slap in the face to pc users and they deserve to be pirated.

I have never and will not pirate a game. If game is beyond my price point, I will wait for a sale or try out a demo. There is only handful games I bought full price - over the last one year, I only bought Dragon Age II (actually I liked it) and Skyrim at full price. Other than that, I just wait for sale - I picked up Witcher 2 during Steam summer sale. I will NOT pirate to even try a game out. It is like saying I go steal a car at the dealership to try out before I buy it (a little too extreme - but you get my point).

Games have been 50-60 dollars since the early 80's when started gaming. The fact that they have only gone up a couple of bucks here and there still amazes me. If you can't afford 60 dollars for a game wait for a steam sale. Or get a better job if 60 dollars will make or break your budget.
